    ]Hi there
no trouble running UUPDUMP on W10 Workstation PRO VM running archlinux kernel 5-2-14 ran perfectly --the VM upgrade went without issue.

I wonder if a load of problems people have with trying to install some of these Insider / Skippy builds that I don't get on my machine(s) is that I'm running W10 for Workstations edition -- might be more "robustly constructed" than the standard W10 Pro and W10 Home --certainly there's far less initial bloat in it than with the normal standard retail W10 editions.

    Cheers

The real problem I have with Windows for Workstation is that because I have no key (and really don't want to spend the time to try and find a warez) I can't install the dark theme which I am enjoying more and more. Also using Windows 10 N for Worksations I can't install some nice media effects. But as long as VMware is working I'm not overly sad since I can run, for example, Windows 10 Pro (for which I do have legit keys) in full screen mode.

    Marty.

I might try Arch sometime in the near future but Manjaro will do for the time being. Occassionally, when running three or more VMs concurrently it may freeze up but it recovers quite well, as do the VMs.

    Hi folks

This build installed easily enough for me but on my system it's 18363 rather than 18362.

I've read about a load of cosmetic functional improvements and none of them for me are really of any use (YMMV as always of course)--I don't like cortana so I don't use it, I don't like to have bits and pieces (such as "always on calculator" ) cluttering up workspace and I was never bothered about the search functionality -- always worked OK as far as I was concerned.

I DO like WSL which has improved considerably since its introduction and it seems to "tolerate" a lot more GUI type programs -- some of these are a lot more convenient to use without having to fire up a Linux VM for example and having access to Linux type file systems from Windows is nice ---- it's been possible the other way around for Donkeys years (both read and write) which is always strange since Linux file systems are open source whereas Ms NTFS in particular is proprietary !!!!. (For those using Linux whether as a VM or a Host - to read and write NTFS directly -- i.e not sharing via SAMBA you need to install ntfs-3g).

Black theme which I didn't like initially grows on you and it's OK if you spruce it up a bit with a few vibrant colours and select a decent theme to go with it and FINALLY !!!!! Language seems to be working properly on this release -- Please Ms don't break it again on the next update !!!!.

Things like Photoshop and Office2019 all running properly -- no spurious GSOD's etc. So far happy with this insider build -- most bug free one yet (at least for me). Note though I'm on 18363 -- might be slightly different on 18362 though -- what the precise difference is perhaps someone can post a link or elaborate.

    @Brink perhaps -- diff between 18363 and 18362 on this build ??.

    Cheers

The search bar on the lock screen seems to be disabled in this build

Win 10 Preview 18980 Hosed my computer

I should never have signed on for the Preview program. An update got pushed to my computer on 9/11 in the evening, and now it won't boot. Says "Your Windows Insider Build ran into a problem" and "CRITICAL PROCESS DIED".

Is there any hope for me to recover without a re-install? I tried uninstalling the latest update, and it says it
restored to 9/11/2019 at 9:10:58 PM. But that did not change anything - still stuck.

One the MVP's suggested I try the UUP Dump utility - but I can't run it since I can't boot up.

    HELP!

After a few failed boot attempts (usually 3) it will automatically present you with an advanced boot menu from which you should have additional options, such as reset the PC and, hopefully, revert to the previous version.

    To answer your question:

To offer a clarification on these releases – 19H1 and 19H2 share the same servicing content. That means they share the same Cumulative Update package. For the small subset of Windows Insiders (the 10%) in Release Preview who were given the option to install 19H2, an enablement package is downloaded from Windows Update that turns on the 19H2 features. This *
changes * the build number for the OS from 19H1 Build 18362 to 19H2 Build 18363. Because they use the same servicing content, the build revision number (the number that comes after the dot) will always match between 19H1 and 19H2. As we continue to test our servicing packages in the Release Preview ring, Insiders on 19H1 and 19H2 will get a single Cumulative Update with the same fixes.

    Hi there

Thanks for the info -- but I'm now still just as confused !!!

Are they saying that there's no real difference -- reminds me of that EXCELLENT Chernobyl Series in the last episode where a youngster is meant to be carrying out a test when the reactor is wound down -- and the test manual has a load of deleted entries -- He's told to do all the tests in the manual and then naturally has a question "..Then why were they all crossed out... " --Seriously guys if you haven't seen that series -- Brilliant. (Netflix / Sky Atlantic / LTV or wherever if you want to watch it).

Anyway so back to the point --is there any real difference between these two builds -- and what -- the only 1 I've spotted is that 363 build language works but 362 it doesn't

Here's proper translation in the latest 18980 build --in 362 build whatever I do it stays in English -- all those windows --now it's working -- to Ms PLEASE don't break in next update !!!!

(Update from either 382 / 383 builds to 18980 fixes - or seems to the language issue but re-loading the language pack again took almost 15 mins !!! nearly longer than installing / upgrading the system in the first place !!!).

No, I have not seen the Chernobyl series, but I am confident it had to be brilliant just by the way you are describing it.

To your point now, I don't know why MS is using the same servicing content for both builds. What I can draw from MS's explanation, only 10% of insiders was given the latitude of applying 19H2 features and by so doing put them to build 18363 instead of 18362. What is the rationale behind that decision and on what criteria these 10% were chosen, honestly I really don't know.

As to the language issue, I could see that you have found a way to fix it, but don't forget those are Insiders Builds and by definition prone to bugs issues. LOL!

Regarding the screenshots above...and this is off-topic I know...but something I would give feedback on if I was an Insider

... albeit I like Dark overall, should the bright yellow (like the folders) not be toned down a bit..

The black too dark and the yellow too bright - it's more like high contrast to me... IMHO
