This is regarding the monthly cumulative updates., not feature updates. As soon as I installed the O/S I got two updates. My purpose for wanting to download and NOT install is I want to wait and see in there are any calamities and that they have been worked out before I update.
I did defer the update to 10.10 .

    - - - Updated - - -

BTW, I don't see an option 365 day deferral, only 35 days What am i missing?
    Thx

Thank you for your reply and clarification.

You will note that in my previous post I addressed
    - first feature updates (to which a max 365 day deferral can apply)
    - second other updates

    Did you notice that?

I see no point whatsoever in downloading an update in the way you describe. The options available allow you to delay downloads, which allows you to achieve your stated objective.

There are two independent deferrals. It's up to 365 day for Feature Updates, the 35 days is the maximum for Quality Updates (ie cumulative updates).

yes i did. I was not aware that the feature update had to be configured. Nothing I've read indicated that, so thx for pointing that out. i have updates deferred for 30 days. Where do I configure the feature deferral? It's not available in WU/ advanced options.
    Thx for your help

Hi, the first group policy screenshot shows the 365 day deferral option.

However, you should see a setting as others have commented in Settings..

I think that's greyed out because of my GPO configuration.

I am on 1809 on my production machine and this is how I configured "Pausing Updates" in Advanced options:

    Cumulative Update KB4515384 Windows 10 v1903 build 18362.356 Sept. 10-pausing-updates-advanced-options.png

As can be seen, I didn't put anything for quality Updates since I want to receive them. The other way suggested by @dalchina in group policy editor is also valid.

dalchina- I went into GP and set it up like you have it. But, I set the deferral for 90 days and, it is gryed out on my machine as well.
Iron zorg- I wish it was that easy in v.1903. None of that shows in my WU

1903 has a a bug (as yet, unacknowledged by Microsoft). If the Defer Feature Update or the Defer Quality Update values are set to anything other than zero days they disappear from the Advance setting page as soon as there has been a check for updates (manual or automatic). They still seem to apply, and can be seen in the registry, but not in Settings.

Using Regedit to set 'DeferFeaturesUpdatePeriodInDays' or 'DeferQualtyUpdatePeriodInDays' back to zero in the key HKLM\SOTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings will make them visible again (after another 'check for updates').

I reported this bug in the Feedback Hub (anonymously, I don't have an MS account) back in May when I discovered it.

(so far MS haven't even acknowledged that it exists)
