    Hi,

Their priority, rumor has it, is Azure. With regard to one Feature Update/year, I think they are heading this way unless things change again. One never knows with MS. TBH, one Beta or even two builds for testing are good enough and in a way that would avoid or at least mitigate all those known issues for each build released in the Insiders Program. Just my take!
MS' biggest interest always has been the corporate and soho customers. You and me are just peanuts to them.
That said, an OS like this is incredibly complex. I'm even stunned they actually do not so bad at all.

From a mere KISS POV I've always liked and still like W7 alot. That, to my mind and for my needs was their best effort ever. Time flies...

I can understand confusion about changes to Windows 10 update model (it's 3rd change since launch)

Microsoft announced the current changes to were announced in the most confusing fashion back in July

Microsoft changes Windows 10’s update model | Ars Technica
The key points are that Microsoft isn't describing 19H2 as a fully featured new build at all—and that 19H2 isn't deployed as a full OS replacement. Instead of downloading 19H2 as an entire OS, users on build 1903 (aka the May 2019 Update) can deploy it as a set of patches, much like a Cumulative Update (or like the Service Packs of yore).
So Fall Updates are going to be essentially Rollup Updates

I think the deference is the normal CU's are fixes and security updates but no new features.

The fall update will be CU's that also include new features.

HUH!?! I have none of the issues mentioned in his thread, on any of my computers. And they are all very different machines.

I don't know what you guys do with your systems, if they fail that miserably with every update.

    Hi there

Same here -- none of the problems experienced by a load of users here - I have a whole slew of different machines and have done updates etc both as REAL and Virtual machines on Linux and Windows Hosts.

The only issue I've had on pretty well most of the "Insider builds" has been the language feature not working properly but even that issue seems to be OK now in latest skip ahead build.

I do wonder what people either have on their machines or what have they done to them to break these updates !!!

As for people saying "..I'm off to Linux...." -- that's fine if you know what you are doing but if people tinker with their machines like they do in Windows the OS will become inoperable so fast that their computers will become just expensive "door stops".

I use Linux a lot --probably far more than Windows -- apart from Windows Networking which always was and still is to some extent an abomination - Linux networking invariably works perfectly right OOB and usually the Linux OS works without problems but to say as it's as easy as Windows especially for people not used to command line use and compiling packages is rediculous.

Windows though will usually boot up a machine whatever hardware's on it -- that's not always true with Linux so switching to Linux isn't "An easy option" for frustrated Windows users. !!!

Be careful for what you wish for !!!

Most of those "problems" do not apply to my machine, probably because I don't use any of those obscure features. There were few problems here and there but nothing debilitating, just annoying. I keep my systems clean and without undue changes and customization.

Well, I suppose if you never download and install another program and only run Windows, you won't experience problems related to 3rd party programs as some seem to have.

Should downloading and installing programs be deemed customisation? I suppose it is.. but I thought an O/S was to provide a basis for running applications.. Perhaps I'm wrong and people really shouldn't do that?

As long as you stay away from programs like O&O Appbuster, CCleaner and similar stuff it's not very likely that you break anything in Windows. To customize windows functions, use Registry Editor and/or Group Policies and by saying that I mean that you should have so much knowledge about the OS functionality that you know what you are doing. Otherwise don't mess with it!

Also, since ~2 years - do NOT install thirdparty antivirus suites in Windows 10. No need to and it only slows down the system and breaks various security permissions on folders, registry keys etc.

With these simple rules there is no need for any full backups with Macrium SW (or similar) either. UUDump and download of full ISO's??? I don't know why you bother. MS Update does a better job in deciding what the system needs.

Finally - keep drivers up to date via the manufacturer. Especially for Intel, laptop users - do not download the latest from Intel since drivers are almost always customized by the manufacturer for your machine.

All the other points you make are, and always will be, debatable. And that's fine. Sharing learned opinions is good.

But, I take exception to this statement. Backups are simple common sense. We stress to all who post for help, and especially newcomers, the importance of doing regular backups. Whatever method you choose, do backups regularly.

Yes but judging by the questions and concerns from some people here those people wouldn't have a clue anyway how to restore a saved disk image...
