    Mike,

Thanks for that link. I had had difficulty separating direct instructions in this TenForums thread from advice relating to the third-party utilities that were so frequently referred to.

One of my three computers was having the Cortana high CPU problem after KBKB4512941 CU. It stayed at over 90% usage after every reboot until I killed it repeatedly in Task manager every time [the number of End tasks varied between 3 & 7 for no reason that I could understand]. I once let it run for about 6 hours after a reboot just to see if it would calm down on its own but it did not.

After setting the value BingSearchEnabled to 1 and rebooting, the problem disappeared completely.

It is a pity that the author of that otherwise valid & certainly effective article uses his own terminology. Perhaps the author is Humpty Dumpty.
    - What he refers to as an "address" is a Registry key
    - What he refers to as a "Registry key" is a "Value name" or commonly "Value" or just "Item"
    - What he refers to as a "Value" is a "Value data" or commonly "Data"

    So the procedure is -
1 Open the Registry using RegEdit & give Admin permission if required
    C:\Windows\System32\regedt32.exe
2 Go to the required Registry key by pasting this into the RegEdit address bar
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
3 Double-click on the Value name
    BingSearchEnabled
4 In the Value data input box enter 1 then click on OK
5 Close RegEdit and restart the computer

On a clean unmolested install of 18362.329 I do not even have the registry Value name BingSearchEnabled.
I also do not have any issues with the Cortana high CPU problem. So it may not be a big problem to the general public.
Possibly a self inflicted issue from users and or programs adding registry tweaks to get around previous issues.

    Stranger things have happened.

Who would figure uninstalling the Xbox Identity Provider app with CCleaner would break Windows Solitaire Collection.
But it does. Took me 3 installs and most of the 3 day weekend to figure out how in the world that was happening.

    peace

This issue with Windows Search taking 34% of CPU all the time is a big problem. I think that it tries to rebuild search database on the loop. Does someone have some working fix for it? I have already installed this 329 update and Cortana fix is out possibility.

Microsoft needs urgently to solve this one because it makes computer to use 34%+ of its potentials (mostly beyond 50%) making my CPU very hot.
If you're deskto/laptop running hot, i would suggest a program called 'SpeedFan' - there is even an option to regulate fan speed should the need arise.

I use it on an ASUS VivoBook that tends to run hot with positive results!

I will always find a way, if it comes to that but I don't think my mom or dad, brothers & sisters, Joe & Bob will download 3rd party software to block updates. That's my point, if this update is forced to the average user while still having a pretty bad issue causing high CPU spikes.
Try along with MiniTool a program called 'Windows Update Blocker' which will allow you to enable/disable the Windows Update service. Works great in tandem - that way you can check/install or hide updates using both programs

We are currently investigating an issue where users are reporting high CPU usage linked to SeachUI.EXE after installing the optional update on August 30 (KB4512941). We will provide an update in an upcoming release.

Once upon a time search and Cortana were intimately intertwined. It appears they may still be under the hood.
Indeed.. and once upon a time, long long ago, 'Bing' didn't even exist!

Lest we forget; "Information is Power".

Perhaps the digital spaghetti that is MS/Win 10 'under the hood', is now becoming irretrevably entangled, in their continuous attempts to syphon off ever more such 'Information'?

Taking this as a declarative sentence... this is how I've felt about Windows 10 for a long, long time. It is my feeling that MS is in over their head, and are just patching things as fast as they can, as the ship continually springs new leaks somewhere else.

    Spot on!
Yes, even as the Captain(s) insist upon hurtling at full speed toward the next Iceberg, in a corporate race to the bottom!

Next: 'Machine Learning'? Perhaps a complete non-sequita in this greater sense!
For how long, can one machine patch another machine, before both Implode?

    Eeek!

The next CU is due on Sept 10. I hope they fix it by then.
