I did two laptops, one no problems the 2nd Mael's fix was needed. I don't use Cortana so that shouldn't have been a factor. So far I have escaped MS's mess ups but they do appearer to be getting worse!

Hi @kado897, I've been following this thread and You. Cause I use OOShutup as well. Well, I ended up doing a reset after messing with my registry (last time I did that was Win XP LOL) Anyway, after the reset and a backup, I reset OOShutup and left that :special key alone, everything is working and now I'm gonna hurry and make new backups so MS can't screw me up again. It boggles the mind how they could do this to us. It used to be that the game developers and the 3rd party software makers would screw things up like this.
By the way, I took some heat for using that program and never mentioned it again until I saw all you guys fessin that you were using it as well.
Yes , this update has been problematic. I don't blame Shutup10 for the problem. In this case it is just doing something that could be done with Group Policy on a Pro version. So this one is down to MS. Good to know you are fixed.

For what it's worth, several months ago I used the tutorial by @Brink to disable Cortana using a reg file. This CU, as well as the SSU and Net Framework all went in without a hitch. Cortana is not banging the CPU and search works fine.

Only one glitch noticed. If I go to the bing.com website using Edge, my screen will flicker one time once the website loads. No other websites affected using Edge and bing.com is just fine if I use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

Not going to worry about it.

What's dumb about this problem is that users already reported about this when it was in the beta phase or whatever, yet Microsoft released it anyway... -_- What happened to 'listening to feedback' after the whole feature update debacle not so long ago? I guess it's not an issue for countries without Cortana, like myself, but still, wth.

Was reported on the previous build too. There wasn't time to report it on this one. it was released less than 24hrs after being sent to Release Preview.

    Problematic update

For what it is worth I previously reported I do not use Cortana and have no issue after the update .
Neither do I use edge or anything having to do with it I don’t know if this contributes to the cause of the update issues .

Well, I have not used Edge, Cortana or Bing - and in fact did everything I could to 'nuke' them - since day 1 on this machine (about 3 years now I think).. BUT, still experienced the high CPU rates & no 'Search' function with this latest 'down-date'.

    ;(

After installing this CU now Grim Dawn's sounds and sound effects sound like crap (specially notable when using Blitz). Great job MS.
