    Hi folks

    I think the problem with this iso download is that it only has HOME / PRO for install choices -- I'm using WORKSTATION -- the iso from UUPDUMP works properly if you select the right download --- some of the versions with loads of updates in them take quite a bit of extra time to create the ISO as there's quite a bit of slip-streaming obviously to be done before the final iso is created - on a low powered machine or running in a VM allocated too few resources will take a fair bit of time -- the download is trivial it's essentially building the correct iso that takes the time.

    seems via update also language issue fixed also in 1001 - but it doesn't work on 1001 when clean install used -- again what's the difference !!!!!!

    Updated via the standard build to 1001 -- now I'm being offered 1005 -- however if I did clean install on the same machine 1001 didn't offer the update to 1005 -- how these random methods of updates work is driving me bonkers.

    Cheers

    Issues I have at the moment:
    • Apps (Store and Win32) crash often
    • Running WAC causes GSOD, every time. Seven since yesterday morning.
    • Cortana and Search do not open
    • Edge crashes, can't play any videos from YouTube or other sites
    • Connected three OneDrive accounts do not open
    • File Explorer takes ages to open any disk / folder, showing "Working on it" at the same time with "Not responding" in title bar. Just now, opening Downloads folder took over 6 minutes
    • Store does not open
    • Feedback Hub does not work, claiming my organization has removed this device from my account. I am using an Azure AD account as my Insider for Business account. That is strange, as I am the sole owner and global admin of my domain, O365 tenant and Azure / Azure AD accounts
    • For the same reason than with Hub, Insider settings and Windows in general do not work, not able to connect to my accounts

    I have never before had so many issues with any Technical Preview or Insider build. At the moment my main OS is unusable.

    Installed clean 18970 on a native boot VHD, booted to it, installed MDT, and am now building a fresh 18970 deployment image. I hope deploying a clean image will resolve my issues.

    Hi there
    @Kari

    I don't use the store (apart from just twice- to get language pack and some extra desktop themes for W10), I don't use WAC so I can't check that one, File explorer works like it always has so no probs there, I use Firefox for main windows browsing - plays youtube etc etc without issue -- Edge I only rarely use if I need to open / read a PDF file - I usually do that on a server with Okular anyway so that's not an issue I've experienced. I have Office 2019 and that's working perfectly too so I'm not having any issues with this build (so far) apart from the fact that on the identical machine an update from the current standard W10 release gives me 1001 and offers updates for 1005 but a clean install (from the same iso etc) doesn't offer me 1005 after installing 1001 and language stuff totally broken.

    I don't use cortana either and if I need searches I find the tools I have on my NAS are far quicker in any case so I can't really check those two features out either.

    The Virtual desktops thing though is a good idea if it really works sensibly -- old idea from XP I think coming back !!! Remember the old powertoys on XP with 4 desktops. Console / powershell tabbing / split windowing is a good idea too.

    The seemingly random method of whether you get the updates or not is 100% no good if you have to maintain a few machines -- if you can't get a consistent set of software on them then it's just plain crazy -- how can anybody do any sensible testing then.

    Cheers

    Agreed!!! Everyone gets their tails up on their shoulders every now and again. It's all part of the process. And it's also easy to get rubbed the wrong way, when communicating through text. As the reader chooses what tone and meaning they think it is, as often as not, making the wrong choice from what the writer intended. It's all in the cycle.

    Hi there
    1005 installed. I was offered the update via WU update on 1 machine -- seems OK so far

    I installed the original 1001 via UUPDUMP then ran a manual Windows update and the update was presented.

    Hi folks
    is this a new feature -- never noticed it before --I was just testing IE11 on this release -- there's an oldish legacy app I have that still needs IE11 so I checking to see if it still works

    seems this is quite a different way of displaying history --provided you've got a lot of screen real estate I quite like it. Maybe its been there all the time but this is the first time I've noticed it.

    Not new Jimbo. It's called Timeline and was launched with 1803. I've disabled it.

    Hi there

    @johngalt

    I'd suggest also because English has so many variations it's easy to say something in one dialect which means something quite horrendous in another.

    Mind you one of the strangest sayings I saw was in a Canteen / Commissary / refectory in Texas ( just outside Houston actually) with a notice to the staff -- please do not wash your hands in this lavatory which was a sort of small "kitchen sink" before preparing food for customers. !!! The Latin derivation of the Texas Lavatory would be correct -- a washing system from the Latin Lava - wash -- but if you go to the UK for example a lavatory is a W.C -- so you'd get some very strange looks if you were advocating washing hands in a "Lavatory" bowl / sink placed in the kitchen.

    However I'm sure people on these forums can judge by the posts whether remarks are intended to be offensive or might cause some mis-interpretation to accidentally cause unintended offence - especially by non Native English speakers.

    At least on these Forums most folks seem a tolerant lot and offense is not taken when it seems there's a genuine confusion by the poster as to the meaning of some english words which have totally different meanings depending on where you are. !!

    Cheers
