I feel like an asshole for posting this on two different forums... But here I go:

Does anyone here dual-boot Windows Insider with RTM (or Stable 18362, y'know)?
I noticed this Insider build is giving me worse Synthetic Benchmark performance.

The most notorious loss was on Passmark's Single Core CPU Performance test.
I lost about 10% performance, even with Spectre, Meltdown and MDS Mitigations off.
My score was ranging 1800 while on 18362 it's about 2000. Other benchmarks such as AIDA64 are also scoring better on 18362.
I do, standard 1903 and Skippy on another disk.Skippy/Fast performance is all over the place for about 6 months now. So much so that I switched from using it full time like I used to. Most slowdowns where in graphics, CPU is not affected (AMD Ryzen)

    I totally agree with CountMike
This fast build is by far the worst yet for me since I have been trying out Insider Builds.
I will be running slow ring until we get a new fast release that hopefully fixes some of this.
Down right embarrassing for MS, and insulting to us that this build even escaped the lab.

    Better luck next week MS

    peace

Ditto. Tried it and it just crashed - miserable failure. Using the old BCD edit method works ok.
Yeah, the script does the same, it just makes sure you know what it is doing, and what you need to do (especially the reboot part).

I'm not surprised that the VBox crashed - it's hit and miss, then finally irons everything out, only to introduce a new feature - and become hit and miss again. And the cycle repeats itself.

I really do not understand WHY you cannot upgrade a VHD automatically but can when it in a virtual machine. For clarity for other readers, you still ge cumulative /security updates.
    Because it's M$.

I have been wondering the same. It's not logical.

It is weird, that now when Slow Ring upgrades come as cumulative updates, it can be upgraded on native boot VHD. But, if you try to upgrade Fast Ring Windows, you'll get this:

However, this is not a big issue. It is easy to use the VHD on a Hyper-V VM, upgrade, then boot to it again natively.

A lot of what M$ does is not logical. And every single one of us here posting in this thread knows it for a fact.

Easy if using Pro of course.

What I do not understand is why MS would choose the Slow Ring to trial cumulative updates for builds rather than the more cavalier Fast Ring.

The whole ethos was Fast Ring was for trail blazing and Slow Ring builds were relatively stable. We now have a situation whereby 19h2 is out soon but not tested by a lot of users (my perception). MS have not thought this through
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This. The whole Skip Ahead program threw *everything* out of whack. Yes, I use SA builds - but that means that current gen builds aren't getting tested by folks like us on SA builds - which means there is a greater chance for issues to slide past the remaining (fast ring) core of testers.

And it's pretty evident - 1809 and 1903 are both fiascos.

All was thrown into confusion and panic by the 1809 fiasco,
I actually think it *caused* the 1809 fiasco.

Can't say for a fact - but subjectively speaking 18965 is a PoS - it's hosed completely on this desktop (I've since restored a 1903 backup and am installing new apps, and will wait for the next build to come out - not going to it again( and it's at least partially gone stupid on my Dell laptop as well.

Only on my Lenovo is it running fine - but slowly (but all of these are older machines - Lenovo is an AMD A6 5350, Dell is a Celeron 1007U and my desktop is a Core i7 965 EE - the oldest of the lot.

I would not be surprised if your numbers are actually conservative, and some people may see even higher percentages - up to 20%.

I'm already ahving to cleanly install on the Desktop - I certainly hope the Dell can pull out of its funk - I don't not want to spend next weekend cleanly installing it as well....

And for me, so far, everything just works in both 18362.325 and 18965.1005.

On all my machines. The ones I use regularly and the ones I don't.

I do agree that not enough of us have tested the September/October release, since I have Skippy on the second partition here. I may have to do something about that, but things are good and I'm not sure I want to change.

I think it was a huge mistake for MS not to have 19H2 on Fast and 20H1 on Skippy only, even if 19H2 isn't a full upgrade. There's too big a chance this will come back to bite them... and us.
