What happens If I don't select Download? Will it just download automatically when its ready... I thought because it was Patch Tuesday this update would have automatically downloaded and installed. Im confused
That had always been the behaviour in 1903 Home up until now. Patch Tuesday 'B' updates would download and install automatically while the optional 'C/D' releases in the 3rd/4th weeks of the month would come with a 'Download and install now' link you could safely ignore and continue to check for updates.

    Cumulative Update KB4512508 Windows 10 v1903 build 18362.295 - Aug. 13-kb4497093.png

This 'Download' button for the mandatory Patch Tuesday 'B' release is new and (as far as I can find out) as yet undocumented behaviour. Who knows when/if it will ever download automatically? MS don't seem to be saying.

As a test I have a 1903 W10 Home machine which I'll leave alone without clicking Download to see what (if anything) will happen....

Hi Bree. For a couple of weeks I had this cumulative update showing as an Additional Update available meaning at that moment it was an optional update as in your screenshot with the Download and Install now link. So I just ignored it, fully expecting from what I'd read on the forum that on the next Patch Tuesday it would be automatically downloaded and installed and there wouldn't be any input required from me.
Like I say though on Patch Tuesday, two days ago, it changed to Windows updates available with a yellow exclamation mark triangle showing. It states that Updates are ready to download and there is a Download button directly underneath. Cumulative Update KB4512508 for Windows 10 version 1903 shows as a Pending Download. I haven't selected Download because I don't know if it this means it isn't quite ready yet and is still a C or D release. On the same screen there is also a Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool August 2019 (KB890830) also showing as a Pending Download. Both appear to be waiting for the Download button to be selected in order to download both updates simultaneously. Microsoft certainly know how to confuse PC users lol

I suspect the additional update you saw was KB4505903 (18362.267) released 26th July. That has now been replaced by this KB4512508.

I think the appearance of a Download button, even in Home, is more a reflection of MS trying to give users more control over updates (though it would be nice if they actually said so). It's certainly ready and should be installed, if only because the Patch Tuesday update is the only one to contain this month's new security fixes.

I think the download button is just to give you the chance to do it at a convenient time. Be interesting to know how long it gives you.

My thoughts too. I'll let you know if/when my test machine gets round to it....

It's a VM, so I can just leave it running in the background and check in once in a while....

I updated my windows 10 desktop yesterday and I have had an issue with my CPU temps staying at 90 Celsius when idle, and only when in windows. In the BIOS my temp is in the 44C range. And jumps up only when in windows. I never had any issues with CPU temp before and I have run virus scans and examined my fans are all in working order. I dont know what else to try. I attempted to roll back my windows update, but it doesn't allow me to, saying it was updated more than 10 days ago

You're right, the update shown originally as the additional update was definitely KB4505903. When I saw the latest one I just thought it was the same one that had just changed from its additional update status and was now ready for installation. Like you say it is the replacement KB4512508 (Sorry about my confusion . I wonder why KB4505903 was never automatically downloaded and installed? Have I now missed some updates or left some security holes because it was never installed on my PC ? Is that now an issue? I was waiting for Windows Update to automatically install it and it didn't!

You are ok. It is in the nature of cumulative updates that they contain all previous updates (or replacements for them). So all you have done is delay applying KB4505903 contents.

I have stayed on 18362.239 and this latest is the clincher. I may never update again!
