    @jimbo45,

    Totally understand your point. As mentioned in my previous post, I knew you had probably already gone through the whole shebang about how to fix "path too long", but the thing is, if I am not mistaken, Windows, not too long ago, seemed to have fix this quagmire about this issue. I don't know where I saw it, but it is not supposed to be like that anymore with newest versions of Windows. I will have to do some research on the matter.

    @jimbo45,

    Without meaning to be a pain in the b**t, my little research led to believe that some registry hacks or some editing in gpedit.msc, should take care of the problem. I know you have said and I quote: "
    Been there, seen it, done it, bought the T-Shirt etc.", but I think this one is worth a look

    Hi there

    @IronZorg89

    I think people have mis-understood what I'm saying here

    I've done the registry hacks etc etc

    now all I need is some type of file browser / explorer in Windows that displays these !!!!

    Nobody -- but Nobody has displayed any Windows file browser / explorer type of application that that displays these long file names yet

    Even things like FTP applications where you see the remote (linux) directories and the local windows directories show the long file names as 8.3 truncated !!!!

    Any Offers with a link to a Windows file explorer application that displays long path and file names !! !!!!!

    I think in my post I showed what I'm looking for --I posted a pic of the Linux file explorer and the Windows one.

    People sometimes don't read the whole post to understand the problem

    it's not one of allowing >266 chars in the path name etc but in finding and using an application that DISPLAYS them.

    Cheers
    jimbo

    Really sorry that I completely missed your point. Now that you have re-explained exactly what you want, I fully understand that I was totally misinterpreting the whole deal. My bad!. If I ever come across of such an app or something that can help you in displaying long path and file names, I will certainly post back to your attention.

    Pretty sure also that you have already tried to find such an app or something of that ilk. Meaning if it does exist, you would have found it already. At any rate, I will be following your posts to see what comes next on the matter, i.e., how you happen to resolve it.

    Hi @jimbo

    Took a look at some of your posts on this subject back to January 2018 and it seems you've been on this holy grail since then. As I understand it the character length is not the issue it's just that windows explorer is not capable of showing the whole file path for you to view.

    My PC is not going into sleep mode for 18956. I recall it may have also been an issue for 18945 & 18950
    powercfg -requests doesn't show anything
    powercfg /devicequery wake_armed doesn't show anything
    Any ideas?
    I had mine set up to stay awake, and it changed things to sleep mode! Which is OK, I just hadn't changed it back to sleep.

    It's tempting to do it that way but I can't help thinking it defeats one of the purposes of testing. I have used UUPDump in the past but only after a total failure of WU.

    goodbye

    Hi All

    Finally decided to give up on IP Builds, been here since the beginning.

    NONE of my problems have ever been resolved, (1 outa 10 bulk standard comp)
    3 hour min update via WU, only 1 clean install because of total WU failure
    (best bit NO BSOD/GSOD!!!)
    wrong drivers installed GPU/Wifi, Bios cores incorrectly reset to 1
    (to correct GPU drivers had to dissable IVT))
    3rd party AV not recognised until after reboot ergo MSE updates!!! expected
    Using 4 of Brinks registry changes every build - Would be nice if a customisation file could be created/Used and carried over

    Whereas plenty of us had problems (and even massive problems) in the past with Windows Update - Specifically around October / November of both 2017 and 2018.

    This seemingly difference between some people having issues now and some of us not having any issues at all is the epitome of why this IP is a very large and public ßeta test - very rarely is there going to be a time when it all goes well for every one of us out there. And it's also the reason why I keep harping on the complaints - if it works, great, if it doesn't there are other alternatives, but reporting these things when they don't work via feedback hub is something everyone in here using these builds should really be doing in the first place.
    Exactly, John. There are more ways than one to get things going in the right direction. Sometimes . . .

    This weekend is going slower than Molasses in January because I want to get back to the Sr. Center computers and try again to get them to update. And, quite frankly, whatever method will work (except a clean install) is quite OK with me!
