    No matter which way you look at this there are always folk who like to complain. In defense of Microsoft If there are 10M insiders then the number of complaints seen in this thread seem to be minuscule in comparison. I can only say that since becoming an insider I have had very few issues and those that I get I see as a challenge and something different to do. When we signed up we all new we were getting ourselves into uncharted waters and anyone can get out of here if they find it a challenge to far.

    Hi there
    absolutely agree

    Nobody is forced to use these builds !!! - but I do re-iterate that if in the release notes it says a feature has been fixed or improved and it clearly doesn't work or is still broken then that is a legitimate cause for a grouse. Ms shouldn't say an issue has been fixed in the release notes if it clearly hasn't -- there's a perfectly OK way of defect reporting -- assuming that those reports are read.

    I think bug tracking / defect reporting should be separated out from the normal feedback issues - that way bugs / defects can be easily tracked and the status checked.

    Now that Ms owns Github wouldn't some type of bug tracking feature such as bugzilla that is common in a lot of linux distros work well -- public access would be via Github.

    Home :: Bugzilla :: bugzilla.org

    The Insider Program is overrated!

    How dare they not give us Insider Builds for free! I mean, really! Sheesh!

    Hmmm, what's wrong with what I just said? Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for me!

    Back in 2014, Microsoft announced the Insider Program, everyone on Windows 7 and 8.xx got a free copy of Windows 10. I had three or four computers with Windows 7 and 8.xx on them; I joined the Insider Program and got Windows 10 Preview on all of 'em. Thus far, I've never been charged for an Insider Build. The last Windows OS I paid for was Windows 8.xx. So, I think I got my money's worth.

    IIRC (and I could well not) up until June 2015 everyone on the planet was able to trade in their Windows 7 or 8.xx for Windows 10.

    Every so often, I find an article that says Windows 7 or 8.xx can still be traded in for Windows 10.
    I'm not talking about being able to upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10 for free. I'm talking about needing a activated version of Windows to join the Insider Program. For example if someone wants to legally dual boot Windows 10 and the Insider version then they need two licenses.When the Insider Program first started those of us that joined could download and install the Insider version of Windows 10 Pro and it would activate without the need of a previous version of Windows.

    Still can. I did it myself a couple of months ago.
    The way I see it MS will trade you a licensed version of Windows 10 for your licensed copy of Windows 7 or 8. If it truly was free Windows 10 could be installed and activated on a new computer without needing a license from a older version.

    Guess Microsoft's latest $1.05 Trillion valuation tells them they must be doing something right!

    Hi there.
    Good afternoon, Jimbo.

    I do though think that legitimate complaints can be made -- especially when features are advertised as being fixed or even improved and they don't work even as well as on the previous build that the new build is intended to replace.
    True dat. However, I'd rather go to the Feedback Hub and report/complain there. Mama always told me I could get more flies with honey than with vinegar. Now, if I could only figure out why I'd want flies!

    I wonder how many people here install these builds and hope to run them as production quality machines -- and then go bonkers when the system fails for some unexpected reason.
    Me too, but I'm betting not all that many. I generally start a project on my Production machine partition, then transfer to the Fast/Skip Ahead partition as if it were my production machine because, after all, I'm an Insider and need to test things. Having said that, I make sure the original of the picture, document, third party app, etc. I'm working on is safely backed up on an external drive. So far, things are working out fine.

    Where Ms needs to sort things out is in the seemingly problematic WU method of updating -- while UUPDUMP generally works it's not 100% foolproof -- although I've never had a problem with it. Would be interesting to get some sort of stats on people who have had a fail with WU and success with UUPDUMP and numbers who can't get the build(s) to install at all whatever method they choose.
    That I will wholeheartedly agree with! And I would say Windows Update is not seemingly problematic; it needs work, lots and lots of work. I'm nowhere near understanding code, much less being a coder, but there should be some way Microsoft could tell our computers to download and mount the necessary files onto our computers, then let us choose whether to keep our files intact or even do a clean install. Voila! Maybe they should license UUPDump from the owner!

    Currently we are all Guinea Pigs no matter if we are Insiders or not. When a new Windows version is declared ready for Business, the Guinea Pig Program is or should be over for that particular version.

    Hi there
    @techquest

    Ms is doing a whole lot of things right currently !!!!.

    Windows domestic side is a diminishing part of Ms's income -- Growth area is in Cloud (Azure), consultancy services, AI, Enterprise services etc. The Windows consumer market while not insignificant is much lower down on Ms's income stream than formerly -- that's one reason why it's still a successful (hugely) company and anybody holding stock or trading on options is doing just fine !!!!

    Be careful before you start posting stuff about Financial markets :

    I do a bit (and enjoy it too) of "Day Trading" on US and UK markets - and haven't done too badly with this stuff -- it always amazes me that sometimes on a Monday morning with 2 Mouse clicks you can make more money than by going out to work for a whole week -- anyway that's the way of the Financial sector !!!

    Note though --you can also lose a whole lot too --that's where skill comes in -- trading -- not gambling !!!!.

    Ms does a whole slew of things other than Windows now.

    Cheers

    On a positive note build 18941 fixed a communication problem between my laptop and my Brother printer. When I tried printing I kept getting message that it couldn't print because of a error. A minute or two later the printer would print without a problem.

    Don't know why that would be @jimbo as it's common knowledge and kind of puts things in perspective. My guess though is one day too big will be too far, especially where governments are concerned.

    Makes you laugh as complaining about the successes of probably the worlds greatest advancement in computing would not be happening if it weren't for Microsoft in the first place.
