Servicing stack update for Windows 10, Version 1903: July 26, 2019

Applies to: Windows 10 version 1903

    Summary

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Key changes include:

    • Addresses an issue in which an update may not install with certain other updates and upon start up after installation of the other updates, will require a second scan of Windows Update and a second restart to complete installation.
    • Addresses an issue in which reserved disk space may not be returned to free space when installation of Language Packs or Features on Demand (FODs) fails or is canceled. The disk space is returned to free space when Storage Sense is run.
    • Addresses an issue when Windows Update Check for updates is run during the installation or uninstallation of an update, Features on Demand (FODs) or Language packs, which may cause the installation to fail and may cause a restart to take up to an hour.

Microsoft strongly recommends you install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU). Installing servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft security fixes.

Should I update my Servicing Stack prior to the 1903 Update?

    Howdy Brink,

    1. Should I update my Servicing Stack prior to the 1903 Update?
If so, is the July 26, 2019 one current?
    i.e. Download KB4508433 MSU for Windows 10 v1903 64-bit (x64) - 14.6 MB
or should I "Check for Updates" per attached screen grab. It appears checking for updates will *not* initiate the 1903 update.

    2. I'm still ok with waiting for this 1903 Feature Update until more bugs are addressed, if you recommend.

    System Status:
    Windows 10 Pro x64, v.1809, Build 17763.615
    Most recent updates KB4507419 & KB4507469
    Successfully installed on ‎7/‎10/‎2019

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello Jeff,

It should automatically be installed via Windows Update if needed while installing the feature update.

I check to verify such updates by going to Update & Security, View Update History, Uninstall updates. The next list [from Control Panel] will usually show things that have been installed [that can be removed] that don't otherwise show on Update History, this is one of those. Mine was installed on 7/27.

I can't believe Microsoft sill haven't retired that old control panel with something new. The fact we still need to open it to view all updates is dumb.

    All set.
I ran a new image of my SSD, uninstalled some third-party programs, removed USB flash drives and turned off Norton.
The 1903 update ran as smooth as imaginable in about 40 minutes.
Piece of cake. ... Holding my breath probably helped a bit ...
    Thanks folks!
