Seems the auto updating has today been extended to include 1809 machines. Just had this appear on two of my 1809 machines. @Brink, has there been any official announcement?

    Others have reported this too.

i just discovered that there are some people who have build 1809 and they were forcibly upgraded to 1903 now.
how exactly does the notify before download option work

Edit: Make that three machines now, my test machine (System Two below) has just had it appear too. In fact, I haven't yet found any 1809 machine that isn't getting the feature update pushed onto it.

I haven't seen anything, but at least it has a download button.

That's only because it's Pro with the group policy set to 'notify to download'. Without that (or in Home) it would presumably have begun downloading straight away (not that I have any objection to updating to 1903, it runs fine on my other machines).

I deliberately left that machine on 1809 to see just when this would start. Seems like that is today (earlier than I expected )

MMy system auto checked yesterday at 2:43P and still has the “Download and Install” button/link. Guess I’ll check in the morning tomorrow. Better get a system image started tonight.

Your profile says you have Home, if you had Pro you could defer the Feature Update for up to 365 days, counting from the date 1903 was released (May 21, 2019). But I have found 1903 to be trouble-free on all the machines I have updated, so it's nothing to be afraid of. A system image is always a sensible precaution though.

Mine just started downloading few weeks ago. I just stopped it by stopping the service permanently.

Well, the system auto checked at 11:23P last night and as I type this the update to v.1903 is at 91% installed. The System Image I started at 10:30P last night was running when the install started. Fortunately, I have another System Image from right after the v.1809 install if this auto update goes awry.

You should be fine, I let one of my 1809 machines upgrade and that had no problems. The other machines are mostly VMs which I want to keep on 1809 for test purposes. I deferred features updates by 365 days and used a 'trick' to make them forget they had 1903 pending as an update.

The v.1903 update took 11.5 hours to download/install and another hour to do the update. Then another hour to download and install two additional updates. No errors, but Firefox and Windows Live Mail were completely trashed. All mail folders and all bookmarks were lost as well as the setups for each app. Restoring v.1809 from the windows.old folder. Wasted all day. Thanks MS for forcing the version update when it wasn’t wanted.

The restore to V.1809 went well and restored Firefox, Windows Live Mail, and the desktop to what they were before the v.1903 update. Update and Security panel now shows that there were two installs of v.1903 with the first failing with error code 0x802400d and the second automatically restarting. That hadn't been displayed before for some reason. Will be running another system image tonight with the internet connection disconnected.

Wondering if the System Image save running at the same time as the v.1903 update caused the first v.1903 update to fail? Not feeling like spending the time to research it though.
