It damned well had better not affect software licensing status - sounds like an end-around attempt to push users toward logging in using a MS Account at all times... Probably makes constant telemetry availability much easier for them.

I reckon if you went out into the street these days and started handing out 100 EUR / USD notes to people they'd still complain !!!
Since about 95% of this planet's population appears to have their noses stuck at all times to mobile phone screens I'm sure the appropriate reminders would come up so no excuse.
I believe in "The People's Republic of California" the state can sieze a Bank account if there's been no activity for 5 years as well -- I know California was short of a bit of cash but that seems a bit extreme too.
