Microsoft is notifying users if their PC's aren't ready for W10 1903

    Important heads-up:

"Some Windows 10 users are seeing notifications from Microsoft that their devices are temporarily blocked from receiving the Windows 10 1903 update."

    Read here:

If I am not mistaken, I am part of this stratum, and the screenshot looks like mine (oh, I don't mind):

What I would like to know, why MS cannot tell which "safeguard hold" is preventing me from upgrading to 1903?. Maybe there are some actions I could take to make things easier. Are they drivers updates (which one), certificates issues, NAS devices, BIOS/UEFI µcode update, etc...

    Hi folks

Not sure why these updates would be blocked - 99.9% of PC's and even tablets can work with generic windows drivers when specific ones for very unusual or specialized hardware won't install or are broken.

I even have really bonkers test working successfully : a VM Windows Pro X64 W10 20H1 release (skip ahead) running on an XP 32 bit Host OS !!! -- this most certainly can be done so long as the HOST computer is running a 64 bit capable CPU (most these days are).

Limitations though of running a 64 bit guest OS on a 32 bit Host are that the VT feature must be enabled --it usually is anyway now on CPU's that have been produced easily over the last 10 years - and guest and OS can't together consume more than 4GB RAM (limitations of the 32 bit HOST OS).

Might be bonkers to do this experiment but I wanted to test -- I'm still amazed at how many people just seem to have problems with these Windows 10 updates -- I've got quite a bit of older equipment too and Windows updates always install (for me) whether by WU or using the UUPDUMP method to create an iso --this is the best way certainly if you have a few machines to update or want to create some VM's.

The one rule I have when doing any of these updates - especially on later builds is to totally remove ALL 3rd party. firewalls and Anti Virus software which often don't play nicely with the latest windows 10 releases - especially as these vendors haven't had time to modify their products for windows builds. I've found in any case (unlike W7 etc where 3rd pary Anti Virus software was necessary) W10 has totally revamped Windows security building it right into the OS and consequently Windows Firewall and WD is all you need and is not likely to hose up any Windows updates.

    Cheers

I wish they did this earlier. Would've saved me a lot of headaches. Though I wish they would list the reason why it's not offered instead of making people guess.

Would be fun if Microsoft hosted a funfair (or whatever they are called) with those "you need to be this tall to enter" boards. Imagine what that would say if Microsoft ran the show. "You're not quite ready yet"?
