Microsoft Says Windows 10 19H2 Is Still Coming

    Last Updated: 22 Jun 2019 at 17:03

As per Microsoft’s schedule, the fall feature update for Windows 10 is finalized in September and released in October.

The public testing, which comes down to preview builds shipped to Windows insiders, typically starts in the spring, so Microsoft has enough time to add new features, collect feedback, use it to refine the update, and then push it to production devices.

This was the plan for 19H2 as well, with Microsoft saying several months ago that “we will begin releasing 19H2 bits to insiders later this spring after we get 19H2 nearly finished and read.”

The spring is already over, 19H1 is available for all seekers on Windows Update, and 19H2 is still nowhere to be seen...

El Reg has had a stab into this already (emphasis mine):

Summer's here, where's Windows 10 19H2? For Microsoft, spring ends whenever the heck it says so stop asking • The Register

Other than the appearance of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) 2 in the recent weeks, the last few builds of Windows 10 20H1, due for release some time next year, have been notable for, er, not much.

We assume the exciting stuff must be happening under the hood.

    (...)

The problem, as ever, was this was 20H1 and a preview of the next release of Windows 10, 19H2 has yet to be emitted from the bowels of Redmond. And things are getting a bit tight – based on past form, we would expect a release in October. So getting a preview is becoming critical.

I agree. Very late so Redmond better hustle and get something out the door for our perusal soon!

Given the new yyHn nomenclature, and that n = 1|2, that means they have until 12/31/2019 to get a release candidate ready. I don't sense any particular urgency in these responses, but the intention seems to be to release something in the relatively near future. My best guess is we'll see something in July or August. I hasten to observe that I've guessed wrongly before, and will definitely guess wrongly again. We'll see if this is another one of those erroneous guesses in the next 9 weeks or so.

    I must be missing something,
neither one of you is in a position to DEMAND that MS is releasing a new product. They should release it
when it is ready and stable. I don’t want a product that will trash my
computer. Let them finish it, then test it and then make it available to the
    public.

Going by past practice MS releases new builds when they are ready and not when the builds are ready.

The majority of us are insiders and regularly test new builds. These builds do have bugs. They are release preview versions and are not for public release until they have been tested and debugged. That’s why we’re insiders who help in debugging. Otherwise, most of us would not be on this part of the forum.
