Quite true, Keith, but if you can't update via WU, at least with UUPDump, you can test the rest of the update. It doesn't all hinge on helping Microsoft improve the upgrade process. Just my opinion . . . and coffee's still $1.25 when it used to cost a dime!

BTW, with the slow Internet speed at the Sr. Center, ain't no way I'm gonna spend the night there updating our seven computers!
I understand Wynona & they are not insiders so my remarks don't apply.

    No, I didn't re-install the OS.
Maybe that is what I will have to do, but I was trying to avoid re-installing all my apps.
Build 18912 is running now, but the quirks it had on the old hardware are still present.
It was, and is, very slow to load and respond after an overnight shutdown. After a restart (or 2) it performs snappily.
Yep, as hard as it to accept, I think you should reinstall. Maybe a repair install? Leaving your apps and files intact?

    Hi guys

what's up with these dark themes -- I HATE THEM !!!!!!

Same as modern TV or films these days -- everything seems to be shot at about 01.00 am in total darkness etc -- even the car chase bits seem to be done in the middle of the night !! -- perhaps it's humankind becoming afraid of the light these days --- or is it creeping "vampire-itus" that's affecting people these days.

I prefer neutral type backgrounds -- especially if you use things like photoshop where often a light grey workspace is the easiest to work with.

Still it's peoples choice -- however I don't like the trend though towards dark sombre themes though.

    Cheers

You don't have to use them, Jimbo. Those of us who have eye problems have been asking for years to get this accomplished; we finally get the help we need and . . .

Oh, shivisky! My installation through WU just crashed and burned with Error 0xc0000005.

I've clicked Retry so we'll see what happens.

This update might fail the first time you try to download it with a 0xc0000409 error code.

But no word on what would happen if you try a second time. The best way to know is to try it again. Just my thought!

On one of my computers, I had this and retried several times with no results. After I rebooted and retried again, it installed.

Had one that went thru first time smoothly. Another machine, 3 retries and it finally got some traction and kept going to the end. Predictably unpredictable. Oh, and a third machine I used an ISO.... 20 minutes soup to nuts. Go figure.

And if this one fails, I'm going to the "Soup to Nuts" version!

Like for every update, it all depends on one's machine's hardware and configuration. That should explain why an update would work on some and not on others, meaning lots of things to factor in... And like you say: Go figure!
