Please correct me if wrong, but isn't this the first time a Servicing Stack Update - Cumulative Update pair have been released to Insider Ring prior to going public? I thought most of the 1809 bugs were in the initial Feature Update, then the SSUs, CUs, etc., were released direct to public without Insider Ring testing....
If the CU requires a Servicing Stack update then it gets applied in the RP ring. I said it was one of the causes the other was that they didn't listen to what some insiders were saying. The RP ring is the final chance to catch issues before it goes to the general public. They were so desperate to get it out during their conference that they omitted this step on 1809. Mind you even though issues were still there in 1903 RP such as the Battle Eye problem they still went ahead with 1903 presumably because they had pre-announced late May as the release date and there was a fixed version out there. The USB issue occurred I think only with the last CU in RP when presumably the decision to release had already been made.

Edit: The only CUs that are not released to RP early are security ones.

It's really the correct way Microsoft should be rolling out updates, first to RP then to everybody else. Except for the security updates that are released on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Thank you for the info! And thanks to all the brave ones in the Insider Rings!

I did a clean install yesterday. The only issues I have so far is Night light not working and the Settings app that will crash when I click on Devices and Searching Windows. Everything is working perfectly.

    Hi folks
Remember as well to remove any SD / micro sd cards from internal / built in readers from computer before installing or you'll get same message as for external USB devices -- This PC can't be upgraded to Windows 10 !!

    Cheers

    Hi there @Warre1

    no it's still broken

Just tested another PC deliberately leaving a USB HDD attached and doing update from .116 -- got the error message. Remove USB and update worked normally. (I used UUPDUMP for the iso to update from).

    cheers

It's broken in this Build and will be fixed in the next Build. That means you can't install from this Build with anything USB plugged in, but once you get over this hump (using an installation alternative), things should be back to normal in the next Build.

There have been many alternatives listed throughout this thread.

Is your search indexer service disabled?
