That is not true, most updates and patches are for security reasons and I never seen any " new doo-dads for multi-platform social media crap". I also hadn't had any significant malware in ages. You are the only one that can keep hackers away, just have to be smarter than them.

Hi,
Started out with lots of social media apps preinstalled facebook/ twitter/...
I usually don't even look until after using Brinks bat or reg file to get rid of all except store from all users
Then just manually clean up any left over apps I have no intention of using.

1903 I even have to use Brinks reg.. to turn off windows defender is such a bloody pest to back on cloud../ samples/../ account protection/ gezzzz did I leave out anything

10 has always been a carrot on a stick build pusher
1903 gave another one in the name of more updating control and so far there have been update after update just to fix bugs.
So just like all the rest people look forward to updates to maybe fix more than they break

How many Windows 10 users are there? Microsoft officially claims there are 400 million active users of Windows 10. Since it's difficult for the average user to delay/disable Windows Update I'd say most of them use it on a regular basis. Since there is no storm of complaints I'd say the majority (that would be millions) get along just fine.

You, and I and everyone else here in these forums has to remember all we see are complaints. People don't come here to say how good things are so our view of the Microsoft world and Windows 10 in particular is very skewed. Yours is skewed very negative because you've had problems and that's understandable but everything doesn't suck just because you've had a bad experience. I hope your next one is better.

I'm one of those who have had horrible experiences in the past and I almost gave up. But right now everything has been running smoothly on multiple devices. Nothing to report at all.

Hi folks

Windows 10 since its inception has been on the whole fine for me - If I've broken it it's usually because I've fiddled with something that I didn't know what I was doing etc --- so on the whole it's been the dreaded "User Error" !!!

Of course there have been updates and bug fixes -- I can't actually though ever say I received any of the defects that a lot of the KBxxxxx updates are meant to fix but I just do the updates anyway.

There are errors that do annoy me as these should be the easy ones to fix -- a particular irritant is the language interface -- it works 100% in Office 2019 and in Windows display on the current 19H1 / 19H2 (latest) current builds but is broken again for Windows in the 20H1 builds.

I've never seen the need for Malwarebytes or any 3rd party AV systems other than WD on Windows 10 -- never had viruses etc and I've used places like TPB, YTS and RARBG etc at times !!!! so people who need to stuff their computers full of essentially last century's virus solutions must be doing rediculous things on their systems -- hardly Ms or Windows fault.

I don't use the "Twatosphere", "Farcebook" etc etc so I don't really care about any of those apps -- I do have skype which suits me just fine for video calling / business conference stuff etc.

I really can't understand all this Vitriol over Windows -- it's not perfect (No OS ever is) but if you just think of the total amount of different hardware it runs on and the absolutely myriad number of different applications people find for using it --it's a wonder that on the whole it works as well as it does.

My other beef but it's more a Beef is that I don't need all those games etc from the Ms store that are installed by default on an OS that I'm using in a professional working environment -- perhaps those should be an optional extra -- or default installed on Home versions only. Windows Networking also seems to operate like "Black Magic" but that seems to have settled down in the last few recent builds too.

Anyway although I primarily use Linux as my main OS and have Windows as VM's - I do have a couple of Windows laptops -- and usually apart from minor niggles I haven't found running Windows a major problem --it usually does what I want and it invariably just works !!!!.

My problem is not with Windows 10 per say, it is the updates. The two old eMachine Desktops and two new Dell laptops reacted all the same; slow updates. The last Win-10 1809 Desktop took two hours just to update that version, then I used the tool to update to 1903 and after four hours it finally completed. That is not an efficient process. I suspect my first computer experience was when your grandparents thought about having children, so don’t get the idea I am new at this game. We were programming real-time computers back when 8K core memory was new. Windows 10 operates fine even without the updates, as so many of my old retired engineer bros tell me - many still use Win-7.

Updates are pretty hardware intensive, tons of disk writing at different stages but at same time inefficient with higher performance hardware. I have 8cores, 16 threads, 16GB of fast RAM and M.2NVMe SSD. Updates uses barely one full core, miserable amount of RAM and 5% of SSD bandwidth. Takes 45 minutes to an hour+, same as my other computer with much lower performance. Clean installation or restoring from backup takes only 15 minutes or less.
I suspect it's actually running in some virtual mode while changing system files and settings. I don't know if it could be done better but inefficient usage of resources I believe is main reason of slowness.
