Does not happen if you don't have auto-hide on. I never use auto-hide.
Well, this issue is specifically about auto-hide. If you don't use auto-hide, then you certainly won't have this issue.

Error attempting to update with external USB device or memory card attached
If you have an external USB device or SD memory card attached when installing Windows 10, version 1903, you may get an error message stating "This PC can't be upgraded to Windows 10." This is caused by inappropriate drive reassignment during installation.

Sample scenario: An update to Windows 10, version 1903 is attempted on a computer that has a thumb drive inserted into its USB port. Before the update, the thumb drive is mounted in the system as drive G based on the existing drive configuration. After the feature update is installed; however, the device is reassigned a different drive letter (e.g., drive H).

Note The drive reassignment is not limited to removable drives. Internal hard drives may also be affected.

To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a hold on devices with an external USB device or SD memory card attached from being offered Windows 10, version 1903 until this issue is resolved.
    Affected platforms:

    Client: Windows 10, version 1903

Workaround: To work around this issue, remove all external media, such as USB devices and SD cards, from your computer and restart installation of the Windows 10, version 1903 feature update. The update should then proceed normally.
Note If you need to keep your external device, SD memory card, or other devices attached to your computer while updating, we recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to Windows 10, version 1903 using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved.

Next steps: Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late May.
    So.
I imagine this means I have to remove my mouse dongle before I re-start? or even now otherwise the hold won't be removed until WU gets its act together and finds a resolution.

Another SNAFU. I hate those damn touch-pads! Maybe I'll get adventurous and pull the dongle and turn the touch-pad back on, an see what happens.

    Some mitigation....A workaround! SMH

an Asus PCE-AC88 WiFi adapter, and it has constant issues with disconnects over 5GHz. But it's been doing this constantly even with 1809, so this bug really interests me.
What channel are you using for 5GHz?

I once had a 5GHz adapter that I think was broadcom based and it would lose connection all the time until I lowered from triple number channels.

It was fine if I used 36, 40, 44, 48 but if I used anything in the 100's range it would lose connection all the time and sometimes not even connect.

I didn’t remove my Logitech USB dongle from my laptop & install didn’t fail, so you’re OK.
I think the problem refers to a USB device which can be written to like external drives, SD cards & USB drives.

I think it has to have a drive letter assigned to it.

    Thanks for getting back Bastet!

That's another problem with MS, they always err to the side of ambiguity. I wish I'd of known that last night becuse I did pull the dongle and switched over to the elan touch-pad that lenovo uses... I'm getting used to it, but God, I hate that device!

I read that WU will usually check your machine every 17 to 22hours to see if it needs updates and it checked last night at 6:09pm edt, well, we'll see what happens. I'll only let it go to Sunday night and if no change I'll put the dongle back on an wait.

I see Kado has stopped by Hi Kado! If that's the case then we may have been okay, because my dongle was only listed as a HID (human interface device) no drive letter.

My apologies to everyone about my last post being 'bitchy'. My health isn't too good and my wife's even worse, with RL (real life) pullin' me in several directions at once, the last thing I needed was to hear 'bout some multi-billion co. that can't get their act together.

Hi Anak, I removed all my external USB disks but still had a mouse dongle when I did mine.

After upgrade to 1903 I had this ESENT error over and over in event viewer.

    svchost (4304,R,98) TILEREPOSITORYS-1-5-18: Error -1023 (0xfffffc01) occurred while opening logfile C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log.

Solution was to go to Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\

Create the folder TileDataLayer then inside that folder create Database folder.

After I did that Windows automatically placed all the files in the Database folder.

Edit: I see this was already known in the insiders thread but I was not in the insiders program so I did not look at that thread before posting. You would think MS would have fixed this before release to the public.

    Attachment 234786

Thanks a lot for the suggestion.
    Created the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database
and within minutes Windows added the files
    EDB.chk
    EDB.log
    EDBres00001.jrs
    EDBres00002.jrs
    EDBtmp.log

After 30 min. the files were updated by Windows but no ESENT EventID 455...

    Great solution!

Set it last night before shutdown and bed. This morning, no errors, and all files were written normally.

    Thanks, again, @KevTech
