To reassure anybody concerned over the speed of my internet: the laptop update completed in a few minutes past 2 hours. The laptop typically downloads and installs monthly updates faster than the desktop. But I think the difference between the two downloads was probably just some bad timing on Friday.
My machine hasn't been offered the 1903 update yet.
"Supposedly",due to the cumulative update, KB4497934. Feature Updates are no longer installed automatically.
If you're running a version of Windows 10, which is close to its end-of-support date.
Windows will automatically install any new feature update.
The October 2018 update to 1809, has an end-of-date of May 12, 2020.
This should mean, that no automatic updates will occur until after the new year.
As for Windows 10 version 1803.
It has a end-of-support date of November 12 2019.
With this said, how close does one need to be. Before Microsoft starts to push out a Feature Update to your machine automatically?
In all of my experiences with it seems to take time... Each machine receives the update at different times. Newer hardware seems to be faster at getting the most recent updates in my experience.My machine hasn't been offered the 1903 update yet.

Old clunker might already be on ms standard drivers
New isn't.
As I mentioned in post #960 I gave up waiting for my Lenovo K450 and used the Windows Update Assistant which is my new favorite method if Windows Update is not giving me the FU in a reasonable amount of time.
The Lenovo is not an old clunker, even though I purchased it in December of 2013. It still has the same motherboard and 4th gen Intel i7 4770 with the original 16GB RAM but PSU, GPU and drives are all upgraded. It has two Brother printers connected via USB.
I suspect none of those upgrades affect how Microsoft's AI sees it's upgradeability.
It would be nice if there was a way to query where I stood in the upgrade queue. So when I click on Check updates, I would get a Scheduled for mm/dd/yyyy instead of No updates available or You are current.
MS has its schedules and I have mine. I don't know when I'd get offered a FU since I never wait for it. As soon as I knew 18362 would be 1903, I temporarily signed my 2 non-Insider desktops into the Insider program and got updated. That method wouldn't work on my laptop for some reason, so I downloaded an ISO from UUPDump for that. Everything had already been updated when MS released 1903 to the public. I did do repair installs after release in the unlikely event there were minor differences.
I was impressed with the Windows Update Assistant. Worked well and when done my system was just like it would be for a normal Windows Update.
1809 is good until May 12, 2020 and 1803 until November 12 2019.
I don't see the need for Microsoft, to offer a tool, such as the Windows Update Assistant.
When there is also the Media Creation Tool.
Another way, would be to have updates set to automatically install. Wait for Patch Tuesday and hope that all goes well. Unfortunately that's not going to happen for many users, and updates sometimes fail for whatever reason.
Then there's Microsoft’s Update Catalog, which allows users, to manually download single updates, or cumulative updates.
I'm not even going to go into the so called "Windows Update Troubleshooter", which often times doesn't troubleshoot anything.
Oh, and I can't forget to mention the Windows Update MiniTool.
How about just simply clicking on the "Check For Updates" button, which at times doesn't update or fails to install an update.
Why do I have to go through all of this.
When the updates are available for my machine, they'll be installed automatically anyway, so what's the point of all this?
Are people really this wanting, that they would subject themselves to this process?
"How to get the Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903" seems like a silly title to me.
When the update should install itself, if one has enough patience to wait.
This all seems very frustrating to me.
