I didn't have any boot menu problem while installing 1903. Everything went OK for the install. The issues started to pop up when using the machine, things like Disk Cleanup taking more than 3-5 mins to launch, Edge wouldn't launch no matter what even after trying Repair & Reset, WindowBlinds a little third-party app I love a lot wouldn't work as usual etc... etc...
Something probably happened during the install (I don't know what), but the weird thing is that, as I have mentioned before in a previous post, my older second machine is on Fast/Skippy and working like a charm. Why is that? Your guess is as good as mine.
Contrary to your approach (forcing manually), I always get it via Windows Update, but no performance issue. This is so mind-boggling that at some point I felt like putting both machines on Fast/Skippy, but this would be going beyond the pale. For now, I am running fine with my production machine on 1809 and older second machine on Fast/Skippy.
If I am not mistaken there has already been a CU for 1903. After the next one, I should give 1903 another try on my main machine. I love it when things are working fine and that is the state of affairs on both machines right now.
Hi Ken. Is a clean install using a USB flash drive problematic or does that work OK? I generally use the Download ISO to PC using Media Creation Tool, prepare flash drive using Diskpart, Mount ISO and copy files over to the flash drive and clean install method.
I read somewhere that SD cards cause issues in some cases as well. There is an SD card on my PC. Ive never used it so I don't know anything about them at all so I don't know what problems they cause..
One last question before I opt for the OS reinstall...
Does anyone know what is happening at the 75% mark during the second half of the upgrade? That is where mine fails every time and begins its rollback. I know these aren't arbitrary computer percentages, because the numbers advance exactly the same on every system I've installed it (and I've been successful with four out of five so far.)
So I believe something is happening at the 75% point. I've looked through all the logs and can't figure it out. Thanks in advance.
I had exactly the problem you mentioned. BUT I did not do clean install.
I downloaded the iso file from MCT and burnt it to a usb drive.
I inserted the flash drive > opened it > opened the Setup and proceeded to install. Install was unable to proceed and it said the problem was either I had a sd card installed which I did not, or I had an usb drive installed.
OF COURSE I had an usb drive installed in the computer! It was used to install 1903...…. duh. How stupid was that !
So, I copied the iso into my computer (without the usb drive) > right click at the iso > Mount > Setup > Open
That worked.
Now I have 18362.116.
