Well, the error below is the one I'm receiving after my third attempt. Same error as first install. I researched it and it has apparently been around for a while. Could be other USB devices (I'll try again removing my logitech mouse USB antenna) or I'm even beginning to suspect the USB-C driver that is part of the Nvidia 2080ti driver install I have.

It's a real shame they can't write an installer that picks out the specific devices that would cause problems in these installs. It's left up to us to figure that out.

    Attachment 234585
That's the error some of us are getting. I think I read, though, that with the final update to 1903, the problem will be fixed.

IIRC the two issues which can stop a 1903 upgrade are the external usb drives and having restore points present. If unplugging all your usb drives hasn't fixed it, maybe you could try turning off system restore?
(Since turning off system restore will make it harder to backtrack after a possible bad upgrade, creating a system backup with something like Macrium would be sensible).

That’s lame. I use system restore. It has been a valuable tool to get me out of a hole a few times. I’m still waiting for it to be offered to both my machines in Windows update. I’m going to leave it on and hope all goes ok when the update finally comes through from WU. Has anyone had successful installs whilst keeping system restore on?

if things like usb drives and system restore can cause install failures then they really should not of been releasing this to the general public until these issues are fixed

I left it until morning as my internet was practically on it's knees and since no update was coming, now downloading thru MCT. I'll try to upgrade from ISO mounted on internal SSD. Can't imagine faster way.

Lost patience waiting for WU so upgraded using the upgrade assistant. I made sure all my USB drives were disconnected and an hour later I have a working 1903.

Yeah I’m still waiting for WU and will continue to do so. Given the known issues and my unwillingness to compromise by switching off system restore I don’t think forcing it is a good idea. For what it’s worth none of our machines have yet been offered it

Something to check. The upgrade turned on System Restore for me.

    I'm with you on that.
I'll wait until it's offered, rather than forcing it.

Didn't see a need to wait for MS to decide when to update since I'm also running Skippy/Fast ring too and know what to expect. ISO downloaded by MCT, mounted on internal SSD and 22 minutes later:

    Edit
Run all system checks. imported all custom settings, run disk cleanup, even couple of my preferred benchmarks and everything is in super shape. There were few security updates and couple of store APPs were updated. Benchmarks show a bit of improvement, no drivers are force changed. Doing system backup now.
    It's a keeper.
