Windows Feature Updates will be rolled out as monthly updates are now. Looks like it will be quicker to get a feature update.
I think you have it backwards, Banger. From what I'm reading we'll have one Features Update and one "more or less" Service Pack.

    ZDNet

On July 1, Microsoft broke radio silence about 19H2, the feature release that it is expected to start rolling out to mainstream users this fall. Microsoft rolled out Build 18362.10000, the first 19H2 build, to the Slow Ring today. Microsoft acknowledged what tipsters have told us for a while: 19H2 is a cumulative update to the May 2019 Update/1903.

That probably means that little to no break thru changes in 19H2, so we will just make it CU. Easy / Pezey.

From my message in post # 5 from this link, I got the green light this morning with another message "Download and Install" for 1903. I gave it a try and everything went really smooth, notwithstanding with a major drawback: Microsoft Edge is unable to launch no matter what. My two headphones can be paired right now with my Audio system, which was not the case before for one of them. Things I have tried to fix the Edge issue:
    -ipconfig /flushdns
-All the routine DISM.exe command-lines, plus sfc /scannow
    -Repair & Reset Edge
-Reinstall and Re-register Edge from Brink's tutorial (all the steps)
Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

    and also from this link

One thing I realized is that the following key: "Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe" was non-existential in this path: "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages". I couldn't explain why and even tried to copy & paste it from my other machine on Fast/Skippy, but to no avail.

Nothing worked from all the steps above. I finally decided to install Microsoft Edge dev (Chromium-based) which seems to be working fine so far.

Right, decided to give it ago today and pushed the button in order to move to 1903 from 1809...

Download was relatively quick, installation long-ish (40 mins?) although rather uneventful. Once restarted to upgrade, PC has gone through the usual motions and some time later (I had a breakfast in the meantime so not sure when exactly and how many restarts later) I was welcomed with the same login page as prior to the upgrade.

And I'm quite pleased to confirm that all is well and I can't see any difference - which is great!

Things that have gone off-piste during previous upgrades (from memory: HP printer driver suddenly missing, annoying re-indexing from scratch, default storage settings / paths changed, System Restore deactivated, some programs not working anymore and requiring reinstall, privacy settings back to the default etc.) are non-existing and I'm yet to find something wrong.

The only thing that I did carefully taking into account stability issues I had experienced long time ago was to double-check versions of all key installed drivers (Intel, AMD, Realtek etc.) and with the exception of Intel Chipset being downgraded to default Microsoft's *.38 release, all drivers remain the same as prior to the update.

So this was not a bad experience, I must say.

And a query: anything else in particular that I should double-check? I already sorted this SFC/DISM nonsense introduced by WD last week.

Just a few minor things that always seem to get reset by any upgrade (not just the one to 1903). I have a little list of things I like to put back to the way I want them. After an upgrade it has...

    • Turned on auto Defrag for all drives.
    • Reset default image viewer to Photos.
    • Turned back on Password Protected Sharing.
    • Turned off details pane in File Explorer.
    • File copy reset to 'fewer details'
    • Task Manager reset to 'fewer details'

...and, new for 1903, the Downloads folder will now be grouped by Date. You may prefer (as I do) to set it back to 'group by: none'.

In addition, there seem to be a few new options in Privacy you may want to review.

Thanks very much, all duly noted.

EDITED TO ADD: Have checked all these and did not have to do anything here, i.e. my settings may differ from yours but remain the same as prior to the upgrade to 1903.

Ah yes, forgot about this pickle. Who in the right mind has even thought that it would be a great idea?! Yeah, reset it to my default view (and couple of times either).

Ah OK, will check them later carefully.

Also, I do wonder if there still exist any dodgy but otherwise entirely unharmful entries related to some restrictions to System or Local Accounts in the Event Viewer (indicating that Microsoft does not listed and does not mop up the mess they create in the first place). In the past I had to get them sorted with each upgrade and rather laboriously either.

I would add enable System Restore if it's disabled. Seems to be hit or miss if it will be or not.
    Also File Explorer Options:

All checked, all good, minor tweaks only made. Thanks all.

One thing I noticed is larger footprint this time: OS upon loading with all paraphernalia now utilises ca. 5GB in RAM upfront. I daresay it used to be below 4GB before (creeping up as I progressed).

Well that stands to reason, more stuff running, more memory it takes, it's 1000% more than W95 . Anyway, I have bunch of things running and only 4.2GB used.
