Well, when updating to 1903 it gets to 99% downloading and just sits. I hate to start over since it is slow as cold molasses. Why would it hang at 99% DL?

If you are getting 1903 through Windows update, then that seems to be normal. It does not 'hang', rather it seems to have a lot of background processing to do once the necessary files have downloaded. If left long enough it will (eventually) get to 100%. This is a successful update to 1903 that I timed earlier....

Windows Update said "Downloading - 0%" which climbed steadily to 99% while Task Manager showed steady download progress. Network activity virtually ceased after 3.5GB had been downloaded in 15 minutes (this time is entirely dependent on your broadband speed).

The step from "Downloading - 99%" to "Downloading - 100%" took an astonishing 42 minutes, during which there was little or no network activity but a lot of CPU activity, mostly from the Windows Installer....
How long does the 1903 upgrade take using Windows Update?

Intersecting graph above. The data source and statistics are a bit biased and misleading, I would think, based on what was sampled and from where and by whom, and for how long (1 day?).
It's some representation and probably it's as good as it can be. I would trust it more than officially available MS numbers.

Also, different view & some context here:

My careful bet is that growth of 1903 installations - despite higher initial uptake - will be worse than current (not perfect) 1809 saturation as people will simply decide to wait given the choice to defer the upgrade they've ultimately been granted (and I'm one of them).

Same article, same data, same "sampling" technique. Stats are from users of their SDK package who write game apps and such and monetize them.

I'd rather see MS or other Industry stats.

Understood, but just bear in mind that MS stats won't be objective, naturally.

Very little on earth is objective. It's MS's product, they probably know more about it than anyone.

If you are trying to update to the May 2019 Feature Update for Windows 10 (Windows 10, version 1903), you may experience an update compatbility hold and receive the message, "Mac HAL Driver - machaldriver.sys: Your PC has a driver or service that isn't ready for this version of Windows 10."
