Thanks tomcat.. I've done all that though I'll review it again. I've got about 7gb to spare which is fine. Maybe I'll let it compress the files. It's actually workable though as it is. Meanwhile I'll keep eye out for larger space netbooks since FUs with low space memory are a headache. Thanks everyone!

Great maybe I'll check around at various stores.. though $350 is almost 4 times what I paid for what I have. But, still reasonable for that large space as long as it is 11.6 inch screen size.
4 times?, well it's specs are about 4x more. That's a 14" Flex - screen size is 14" and the flex means that you can fold the screen around flat onto the mechanical side.
I did a short look and here 1.5years later lenovo's on to the newer models. I found this one at Staples for $309. USD, It's a 15" 1tb drive but no flex. Yea, look around and wait for the deals if you can, look now while the back-to-school season (June to September) is in.

It took us awhile to find the 14" but when it came up we jumped on it and the wife really likes it.

I'd wait on the OS compress. You may get some performance baddies cause your lappy ain't exactly a Ferrari. If you can live with the space you have for now until a sale comes up and you can grab a nice upgrade, I would do that.

Found this little tidbit about reserved storage on How To Geek. Might explain your situation:

"This feature will be enabled automatically on new PCs with Windows 10 version 1903 (that’s the May 2019 Update) pre-installed, along with clean installs of Windows 10 version 1903. If you’re updating from a previous version of Windows 10, Reserved Storage will not be enabled."

    Here's the whole article:

Enable or Disable Reserved Storage for Windows Update in Windows 10

    Hi OGFC,

That's an interesting article and I was going to rep you but couldn't find the icon then realized we're in the News forum and its turned off in here.

I want to read it when I get some slack time later then I'll post what mine and the wife's are and how the FU went on her machine.

I was able to free up a little more space... so now I'm at 9.5GB free with no compression. I think I'll hold on to this netbook for a bit and keep an eye out for sales. Thanks everyone.

Thank you! It looks like it will only be a minor issue and only for a short time. I'd be able to activate within a week after installation.

    Hi.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I just installed 1903 on my cheap little 32gb flash memory notebook. It installed fine using a 3.0 flashdrive to help the process as usual since netbook is so low capacity and fu will not install without it. After installing 1903 and having windows remove the old version of windows 10, I have about 8gb of space, which is typical after a feature update on my notebook (which I will be replacing soon since 32b is really too small). Actually, I haven't even done a proper storage clean up yet which will free up more space typically with clean up of update files.

However, i just read that 1903 requires more space than earlier FUs.. 32gb. So how did it install with no issues on my 32gb laptop.. with space to spare?? It even appears to be setting aside reserve space (is that why 1903 is using more space than earlier versions?)

Did it compress everything to make it work?

Added: I don't see any signs of compression but maybe I'm missing it.

I will be replacing this very cheap netbook in near future. In this price range they usually come 32-64gb emmc. Do you think 64gb is enough or should it be 128 minimum? Keep in mind this is just a surf the internet computer with no other demands needed other than to make updates easier (it takes more than 12 hours to feature update with 3.0 usb drive with 32gb flashdrive memory laptop)

Thank you for your suggestions and info.
I've had my ups and downs with a 32 GB laptop, more downs than ups; I took the thing back within days, got another one and took it back too.

I will never buy anything with less than a 500 GB hard drive again! The low storage space is just too much trouble in my opinionj, and it's not even close to a humble opinion on this!

    Uhhhhhhhhh, yeah?

If I had my 'druthers, I'd actually build my own, but since being widowed, my cash flow isn't what it used to be. So, I live with what I have and hope it outlives me.
