Odd you were able to do that. If you use USB media, it errors out saying you can't have an external USB drive attached. At least it did on mine.
I think, not sure, he put the Media Creation Tool on the USB, and ran it from that. Or the ISO from MCT in USB and did in-place. Either case, that restriction is for HDD type or SSD type external storage, not thumb drives.

Only for some, not everyone. My desktop updated without a hitch, while my laptop refused. So, it varies.

My failure was with a flash/USB/thumb Drive, TC. I also got a failure on what we call "the little HPs" (because the tower is way small) with the flash/USB/thumb Drive.

Updated 2 PC's to 1903 build 116, all fine except on one of the PC's when i plugged the USB video capture device from transferring my VHS to DVD after update completed, it shut the PC down and PC would not start back up with the USB connected. All other USB devices are fine, iLok, Midi to USB, Tricapture external sound card, and all portable drives ok. Will look into it later, unless anyone have tips. Got to go out for a few hours then will update the laptop.

    Hi,
An 1803 with office on it had to do it twice
Couldn't open task scheduler it was blocked lol and windows defender was no where to be found in action center

Second all apps from settings kept crashing about 13 times before it finally opened this is as good as it gets everything else seems fine.

    Update from 1709 was flawless.

Haven't even tried my x299 system yet just two installs on x99 so far.

I updated two desktop computers with USB drives attached—one has 3 USB drives, one has two USB drives attached. Update was flawless on both. On one laptop which had SD card, update refused until I removed the SD card and rebooted and started update over from beginning.

By the way, Forceflow, you can only get out of an insider release by a clean install via your disc.
Totally wrong. Of course users can leave now as Insider and release builds coincide.

Well, the error below is the one I'm receiving after my third attempt. Same error as first install. I researched it and it has apparently been around for a while. Could be other USB devices (I'll try again removing my logitech mouse USB antenna) or I'm even beginning to suspect the USB-C driver that is part of the Nvidia 2080ti driver install I have.

It's a real shame they can't write an installer that picks out the specific devices that would cause problems in these installs. It's left up to us to figure that out.
