It was just minor local council sites that are information only. Even the totally IT illiterate UK government knows better than that.
    Hi there
my only experience with UK IT is how the isp's seem to spend their whole time on finding more sites to block (100% ineffectively) than the entire Chinese govt -- and thank goodness they have never heard of TOR !!!!

Most Gov depts though in pretty well all the countries I've ever been to don't really have the best brains in any function !!!!

I think I remember reading in a paper not long ago that there was a UK minister speaking in Parliament on some sort of immigration topic that they didn't actually know how many people they had in their Jails !!!!!.

A 9 year old could have written a spreadsheet with that info -- nr of prisoners at point X in time, court sentences of the day and release dates . Simple addition with 3 variables X , Y and Z.

I believe the same minister said it would cost several million pounds to design a system giving the correct total !!!!!! -- was it by any chance your Mr Grayling who seems head of everything that breaks over there !!!

    Cheers

    Hi folks

    back to the topic again

Passwords are a real nuisance but we must have some security obviously. I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that some sort of 2 stage authentication is probably the simplest method -- your computer texts your mobile phone / other device with a randomly generated number which you then input to your machine at the logon screen. The first stage logon would be to ask for the device to send the code to.

If the Internet was down / phone broken or whatever you could at the ist stage screen continue to "Classical login" - the old way with user and password.

This system would definitely need to be tweaked but i'm just presenting an idea.
I'm sure loads of us have got fed up with passwords etc on zillions of e-commerce sites, banks etc etc.

the 2 stage login could also hold encrypted file so you don't have to remember passwords for e-commerce sites etc. Definitely don't need plaintext to be held for these of course.

Could this be a reasonable suggestion for the feature to be added to this release or the next 20H1 releases.

generating random number for the code is simple anyway !! and will ensure uniqueness.

    Cheers

I'm not sure what the change from 113 to 116 is but 116 does seem to run really well on a variety of machines I've tested it on - both physical machines and VM's.
There are just two changes listed for .116, the first is the .gov.uk fix that was issued in simultaneous CU's for all versions of W10. The second was an additional one specific for 18362:
Addresses an issue in which installation may fail with the error, "0x800f081f - CBS_E_SOURCE_MISSING."

Unless there were further undocumented patches I can't see how either would have any effect on how well a system runs. I found that .113 was already running really well on a variety of physical/VM machines, so maybe .116 wasn't the root cause of the effect you noticed.

    Hi there

113 was also running fine - the cause might be after I'd got 116 running on 1 machine I sysprepped the image to other machines (licenses and keys all OK) rather than manually updating the whole hog machine by machine so could have been the manner of installation.

    Anyway I'm happy so far.

I note that one potential problem with this update is with Windows Sandbox not working. I can say that it does still work on this box after getting this update, although the microcode update released several days ago did wreck Sandbox on this machine. Perhaps they should release this version to the masses.

I can't see any big changes before RP -- could be a minor release or two.

While Ms doesn't seem to work on "Normal Logic" it would make sense now to freeze this release apart from any security issues and outstanding defects until RP and for any new features / designs to be added to the 20H1 branch.

Jimbo, I'm working with Release Preview 18362.116 and have been since early April:

Microsoft confirms 19H1 preview would be Windows 10 May 2019 Update (04/04/2019)

Today Microsoft has announced the upcoming Windows 10 feature update (code named 19H1 preview) would be named “Windows 10 May 2019 Update”. Microsoft also officially announced the release date of the next feature update for Windows 10 and it won’t arrive this month.

Here Microsoft state their blog post:

“I’m pleased to announce that the Windows 10 May 2019 Update will start to be available next week in the Release Preview Ring for those in the Windows Insider Program. We will begin broader availability in late May for commercial customers, users who choose the new May 2019 Update for their Windows 10 PC via “check for updates,” and customers whose devices are nearing the end of support on a given release,”

    MSU downloads (not CAB downloads) for KB4505057 - (x86/32bit) (x64/64bit) (ARM64)

Brink should update the 1st post and add the MSU links to the KB4505057 update
