    One happy hp user!
I just got a BIOS update from hp, which brought my CPU microcode revision to the one recommended by intel in its May 14, 2019 microcode update guidance.

    Attachment 238092

The new microcode mitigates the newly found Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS) vulnerabilities and since the recommended microcode is loaded by UEFI, there is no need to install the KB4497165, which breaks Sandbox.

Your computer is still somewhat vulnerable unless you also disable Hyper-Threading.

Do you know if the BIOS update also updated the mysterious Intel Management Engine firmware?

Your help is greatly appreciated. That is exactly what MS is also advising me to do:

    Attachment 238099

    You're most welcome mate!
Don't rush things...no need to. You'll get 1903 sooner or later and you'll definitely get an update (from Microsoft at least) for the MDS vulnerabilities either for 1809 or 1903...so relax and enjoy the ride!

Any reason why I need to do that...?

As I said before: I was on Intel(R) ME version 10.0.45.1024 LP and still am, after the BIOS update!

It's explained in the following short video from Red Hat.

    Thank you. Very informative!

But, IMHO, let's not get crazy with all these vulnerabilities. Although anybody with a CPU later than 2008 might be affected, Mr. John Q. Public, does not sound like a primary target for such a sophisticated hacker. Governments and their agencies, large Enterprises and Armed Forces are most likely the TARGETS!

KB4497165 didn't break Windows Sandbox for me!

My PC is on 18362.267 (clean installed last week) and I have installed KB4497165 on it. It now allows me to have internet in sandbox which wasn't working before.

did u read this from Intel? (306C3 CPUs mentioned there - I don't care if MS doesn't mention it in their KB articles)

realize that KB4497165 was revised in late June 2019, which is a "V2" version, not the original one from mid-May 2019

Yes, when searching for 306C3 , its not in the list for KB4497165 ( June-update) ............it is however in the Mai-update ( this version is installed on my machine ).....

Its adviced ; not to install when right CPU not in the list............!
