    I installed the new microcode update on my Linux computer a couple days ago, and I haven't noticed anything unusual.

    I've also disabled Hyper-Threading on both of my Intel machines. On my Windows computer I disabled it in the BIOS, and on my Linux computer I disabled it by configuring the boot loader. I haven't noticed performance degradation on either computer, but I'm not a gamer nor do I run any compute-intensive applications on those computers.
    The microcode update did not appear to do any other damage on this Windows machine other than the problem with Windows Sandbox. I've yet to reinstall the microcode update after installing 18362.116 but may try it out.

    I got exactly the same on build 18362.113 with KB4497165: splash screen for Windows Sandbox then nothing further.

    Now after yesterday's cumulative update to 18362.116 I get "Windows Sandbox failed to start. (0xc0370106)"

    I submitted a problem report if anyone wants to upvote it: Feedback Hub - Windows Insider
    After 18362.116 Sandbox still works, although I've not yet tried reinstalling the microcode update. May try that later.

    It appears 1903 is now out in the wild. None of this microcode stuff would have been included right? Still requires manual download?

    Ok thanks. And also, this particular thread referred to 1903 insider, but this update is also for the main release right?

    It's the Windows version number that's important(1803, 1809, 1903...etc.)

    Shawn you should probably update the first post now that 1903 is out(RTM).
    It's not just for Insiders anymore, but all on 1903.

    @Brink,

    Are Intel microcode updates permanent? Do they have to be repeated after a clean OS install?

    CPU microcode updates are not permanent in the sense that they're not persistent across reboot. Every time you reboot your computer, either the BIOS or the operating system (or both) will update the microcode on the CPU.

    If you're relying on your operating system to update the microcode, then you'll have to reinstall the software update if you do a clean OS install.
