AMD users don't need it! It only contains microcode for Intel so it will have no effect on an AMD PC. Intel users will likely not see any difference in performance. The next version of Windows 10 will have it included anyway!
MUser thanks for the info yeah i kinda figured out i don't need it but the damn WU is literally forcing it down my PC's throat.

My main concern is if it will make my CPU underperform in games.

For me, the update has no impact, that I can detect, on my PC's performance. It was just some of MS' junk, dumped of my system, and a waste of my time!

Long term, I doubt you can avoid it because it is a security fix and it will likely be included in the next release of Windows 10 without asking you! Try it out, you can always uninstall the update and/or you can also use Restore Point in System Projection to roll back if you don't like it.

I don't know if this was the case for everyone but after installing KB4497165 my system seems to use less RAM.

Out of 16GB RAM before the update it used like 13%. After the update is uses about 10%. Still not sure if this is actually a good thing.

Well it's not faster but it uses less RAM. Like 500 MB less.

Is this good or bad though ?

I don't know why Windows Update doesn't bother to check if the update is needed or even applicable.

But if the update is not applicable, then Windows won't load the microcode update on startup. And Windows won't load a microcode update on startup if it's older than what the BIOS/UEFI already loaded.

    UPDATE 5/19:

    Attachment 279398
WU metadata 5/19/2020 change only for KB4497165, Brink.
while KB4497165 V4 from MUC has new dates, it still is the same msu v4 package that I downloaded back in end of Jan 2020.

use wushowhide.diagcab to hide KB4497165 if you really don't need it, Josey.

again, WU metadata detection change for KB4497165
