Skippy is not part of 19H2 - it is 20H1.

MS have yet to explain how Insiders can test 19H2 unless only on Slow Ring.

I fail to see how this will work as traditionally builds are released to the Fast Ring superheros who test it first, and then an occasional but relatively stable build gets released to Slow Ring.

MS have obviously not thought through the 19H2/20H1 strategy.

The only way out of this conundrum as far as I can tell is to skip (pardon pun) 19H2 altogether.

Either that or 19H2 will be just be an interim bug fix release with no new features to test anyway?
I know that, it's just that 19H2 and 20H1 aka Skippy were same with last few builds. So, Fast ring should have about 6 month to finishing and Skippy a year.

    19H2 does not yet exist.

My point is Fast Ring is on 20H1 as well. You cannot separate them until way into future i.e. Skippy gets moved to 20H2 leaving Fast on 20H1. I cannot see any viable solution as Fast cannot go backwards to 19H2.

Jumping Skippy to 20H1 was reasonable but it made no sense whatsoever to put Fast on 20H1 until it had been through 19H2 first.

The whole strategy is fundamentally flawed. I despair how guys paid Megabucks cannot see the bloody obvious flaw in their planning cycle.

Jumping Skippy to 20H1 was reasonable but it made no sense whatsoever to put Fast on 29H1 until it had been through 19H2 first.

Question is whether they have separate teams for short and long term development. It would be logical to work on some long shot development and to pay more attention to detail and fixes as release date nears. Like this I have a feeling even they don't have a plan.

The only way out is to release buids of 19H2 to the Slow Ring. From what I've heard 19H2 will only be a tidying up of code and bug fixes, no new features. However when MS fix whatever bugs are present what else will they break

This is as I said earlier, it can only be issued to Slow Ring. I have not seen any statement from MS to say 19H2 will only be a bug fix. I think people are just adding 2+2 and making 5 and all we see is unsubstantiated hearsay.
I wonder what the ratio of Slow to Fast users is.

If policy is only to release 19H2 to Slow, then I fear it will hardly be tested at all and MS might as well not bother.

Agreed. I am rather sceptical there is any coordinated plan, and I feel MS are doing Insiders a dis-service by some of their recent actions and not explaining their vision.

It is interesting how we have heard very little from Dona et al., and things like taco fed ninja cats have gone quiet since the 1809 debacle.

I sense there is an internal power struggle going on and people are keeping their heads down to avoid the chop, and hence nobody is willing to talk to us.

I feel MS are being disrespectful to the legions of Insiders now.

Microsoft has made it quite clear, that from now on, Slow Ring is for next release, and Fast Ring for release after that. Skippy will be the same than Fast, until it will be forked to separate ring.

I do not want to speculate, but this is how I think we will go to the future:
    • Slow Ring will get first 19H2 pre-release build most probably by the end of this month, but latest by the end of first half of 2019
    • Fast Ring will continue getting 20H1 pre-release builds until April 2020 (about a month before 20H1 GA release), and then start receiving 21H1 pre-release builds
    • Second half year releases (19H2, 20H2, 21H2) will be minor ones, main focus being in first yearly releases (19H1, 20H1, 21H1).

Naturally, this means that Slow Ring Insiders, those waiting now 19H2 builds do not get as many builds as Fast Ring Insiders did in previous system. All this indicates that Microsoft has knowingly chosen longer development cycle, most of new features being tested in Fast Ring for release after next one.
