I think there is also a lot of throttling the update so it slowly gets out so the issues won't be out of control, user size.
On my system, the first hrs knowing it released I updated my 1909 VM to 2004 with no issues there except for mouse getting stuck in one part of updating cycle.
I then later tried the main system which is an older 3570k with 16gig and 850evo SSD, no Bluetooth or wireless audio drivers, basic install, no external devices. I am not seeing anything with checking for updates, I think if there were HW conflicts you would get that message saying your not ready yet.
    Throttling = Staggered update ?
I received update from1903 to 1909 thru WU the second it became officially available but not this one, "Up to date" is all I got, not even notice or hint it's available. There's no "strange" or unusual HW, all drivers updated to WDDM 2.7 etc. On second machine, much older and full of weird HW and running 17something W10 (didn't fire it up for long time) I got a notice about 2004 being available. I didn't update it because of that weird HW as I'm afraid drivers may not work properly and I need it from time to time.
Talking to some neighbors and friends also revealed that only 1 in 10 got update offered.
Some of us took the "risk" and updated from ISO or MCT without any problems. I don't think that MB has any plan or strategy for propagating new builds.
Stay safe and keep backups up to date

Yes, throttling as in staggering, very slow rollout.
This system has updated from all the win10 versions, most times I got it right away through WU, but few versions I had to force it.
I think I will wait on this one for at least one CU to fix some things.

I wouldn't be getting my tech news from a click bait business magazine

Forbes always spin their stories for maximum alarm (clickbait, as others have said) but if you read it carefully the gist of the story is that (as with all previous feature updates) there are some hardware/software combinations that have issue yet to be resolved. Microsoft block such machines from being offered the feature update in Windows Update until they have resolved those issues.

Yes, those people who do not see the update offered in windows update should not do the upgrade by other means, such as downloading the ISO using the MCT. But it's hardly a disaster story, it's Microsoft being sensible and only updating machine known to be capable of a trouble free update.

My System One in my specs below got offered 2004 on the first day of release and is now running 2004 without issues. My other machines that do not see the feature update being offered will wait until it is offered to them.
    Thanks for the replies!

Bree, I can't see your "System One specs" below your post?

I thought that website would be a good source for accurate information simply because it has such a huge following...

I'm thrilled; my PC is not ready for v2004. Yea! It only took 5 hours to update my wife's Dell laptop, that is exactly the same as mine. weird Microsoft.

Letting Windows Update install the feature update is, perhaps, the slowest possible way to get 2004. If/when windows update says you are ready for 2004, then use the Media Creation Tool to download the ISO and use that to perform an in-place update. It's generally a lot faster.

How long does the 2004 upgrade take using Windows Update?

Yes, you are quite correct, but I'm getting old and forgetful; my wife hit the "go" button before I could intervene :) I will of course go the ISO route, thanks for reminding me

The only advantage of letting windows update do the work is that you get the feature update recorded in Update history. The ISO method won't do that.

I'm ready to update to Windows 10 2004, but reading these problems with "data loss for users" has scared me beyond belief...

Is there any way to check if there was any data loss after I install Windows 10 2004???

This appears to be a more than usually bug prone update. I'm not installing it for at least 2 months.
