According to internal documentation viewed by Thurrott.com, Windows 10 is now active on over 825 million devices worldwide. It’s unclear why Microsoft did not divulge this figure at Build. But as part of a recent reorganization, we also have a better understanding now about how the firm will evolve Windows moving forward.

First, there’s been a leadership hole at Windows since Terry Myerson left in 2018. So, Microsoft has promoted Eran Megiddo to corporate vice president of Windows and Education. He will focus on Windows client direction and strategy and will report to Joe Belfiore, who leads Microsoft’s Essential Products (“EPIC” internally) team. EPIC is part of the Microsoft 365 organization and is responsible for Windows 10 apps, Microsoft Edge, OneNote, and Android and iOS mobile experiences (Microsoft Launcher, Microsoft Edge, OneNote, Microsoft To-Do, Microsoft News, and more)...

I wonder how many of those "Devices" are IoT Devices? Asks the Raspberry Pi fanatic.

    Hi there
I just wonder how many actual paid licenses they have out of that lot. Excluding pirating I think even now a load of people are using the still free upgrades from W7/W8/W8.1 --- still working as of yesterday BTW.

    Cheers

I wonder how they are tracking the numbers? If they are going by how many Digital Licenses were issued thats flawed reasoning. I have two desktops and two laptops, all have multiple Digital licenses for installs of different editions on that one device. Its about 5 licenses per device.
Guess I better go back and read the article again, lol.

A big chunk of those must be from the resistance is futile we will upgrade you to Windows 10 Program. A really big chunk actually. And some preinstalled OEM versions on new devices bought recently. I get the impression most of those actually buying Wndows 10 are buying it to upgrade from Home to Pro?

I have 2 upgrades. My wife's laptop came with Windows 7 Home and I upgraded all the way to Windows 10 Home. I purchased Windows 7 OEM from local shop for my older system then upgraded to Win 8 Pro for $29.00 on a special offer, then free upgrade to 8.1 and then to Windows 10 Pro. My new system I purchased Windows 10 Pro retail version. All is working great so Far..
    cheers

I don't expect it will be shut off anytime in the foreseeable future. A Microsoft tech told me I could always use the original 8.0 key anytime I changed motherboards and 10 didn't activate.

The last several builds have stopped reading the Windows 8 OEM embedded key in my laptop, while others here say theirs are still being detected? I'm not sure what's up with that? Fine by me though, no more auto installing Home.
