    Hi Folks

Cables / Fibre -- who needs it -- Dinosaur technology these days - 5G!!! --faster, no cables needed etc etc

The trouble with major infrastructure that requires a great deal of building construction --e.g digging up streets etc for providing cables and those unsightly things that stick up into the sky to provide optical technology is that they are out of date and redundant almost before people have finished constructing them.
Yes exactly, in Australia the slow roll out of the 'National Broadband Network' (NBN) has so far been laborious and convoluted over several years, with different flavours of Government adopting different technologies 'on the fly'.

Much of the existing old copper telephone network is interpersed with optic fiber and is still being used to reach domestic premisis for example.

The result is essentially a mess!

I am seeing 5G transcievers randomly popping up on street lights & masts etc in 'public places' around the city however and a couple of large satellites are also helping offer the vast rural tracts here with higher speeds.

(~ Hopefully the double-helix 'antenna' of our physical DNA continues to survive this proposed 'high-frquency bombardment' OK! ).

    :/

As someone on NBN with Fibre to the Home and on a 100 Mbps connection for $65 a month unlimited data and with SIP phone included. The NBN was always going to be a white elephant a $51B investment for a population of 25 mil.
5G will kill any in ground systems anywhere in the world.
5G is available right now in Australia with Telstra.
Everyone wants fast but are not prepared to pay.
I can get a 1TB (1000 Mbps guaranteed up and down) connection right now with iinet for $899 a month!

Yes, the large land area/low population equation certainly doesn't help.

Still have Telstra's copper to the Home here and would hope for a little more than the present 2Mbps for our $60p/m!

The 5G 'Skynet' Revolution cometh, indeed!

I downgraded my UK Virgin Media fibre broadband to 50Mbps for a significant cost saving and haven't noticed the speed difference!

Watching on Your monthly payments for Internet and I am happy how less we should pay for it in Latvia
In capital city and other "big" cities in Latvia we can get optical Internet with >100Mbps + TV pack with more than 100 Channels for about 20 euro / month . In places, where optical cable is not possible, we can get unlimited 4G Wifi mobile network for about 15 euro / month.

I should probably move to Latvia!

Just because Australia is geographically large and comparitively 'isolated', there is a mindset here that extortionate rates for many things are therefore 'excusable'!
The saddest thing is, that most Australians remain blissfully unaware of this.

    Thank you!

This is an awesome article. Microsoft just recently announced that this roll out of Windows 10 May 2019 Update, recognized as version 1903, has reached another stage, due to the fact the company started training its machine-learning system to automatically update devices still running the April 2019 Update version 1803

Microsoft auto-updating Windows 10 version 1803 and earlier to 1903
