Finally, my old eMachines updated to1809 and was it slow!!!!!
Now that all my PCs are up to date (1809) the "New" item in my Context Menu feature on all my PCs is now hanging up. Wonder if MS will ever get around to fixing this problem?

Dropping an update just prior to the weekend, but also prior to Early May Bank Holiday (Monday) in the UK - sounds like a very good and equally very well thought idea to me?

(I seem to be fine by the way post-deployment which was forced upon me the moment I powered up my PC)

What the… This non-Critical CU came through to me automatically. Usually I need to wait to patch tuesday. Is it a sign that Microsoft is prepping their feature update? Possibly without interference by another update?
    +1 This right here!

Yup, one can gain a lot more telemetry over a weekend than a mid-week drop. Welcome Patch Friday ...

MS normally stick to Patch Tuesday for the critical releases that are delivered automatically (the "B" release) and the other Tuesdays for non-critical optional updates that are not automatic (the "C" and "D" releases). However, they also say that in exceptional circumstances they may release an automatic update at any time. Perhaps this is one of those times?

    Microsoft said:
We also provide updates that don’t follow a standard release schedule. We refer to these as on-demand releases. They are used in atypical cases where we detect an issue and cannot wait for the next monthly release because devices must be updated immediately either to fix security vulnerabilities or to solve a quality issue impacting multiple devices.

Right, but I don't see much that is of huge importance in this update, nor does it come with a monthly security rollup. Either I'm missing something obvious - (or it's not mentioned in the notes) - or they're doing something important in the background for it to be pushed out to everyone, on a Friday no less.

At a guess, I suspect that the first three 'issues' may have counted as "...a quality issue impacting multiple devices..." for their business customers.

    ...Key changes include:

    • Allows the built-in Administrator account to run Microsoft Office setup after downloading the installer in Microsoft Edge.
    • Addresses an issue that causes Internet Explorer Automation to fail in certain instances.
    • Addresses an issue that may prevent Custom URI Schemes for Application Protocol handlers from starting the corresponding application for local intranet and trusted sites on Internet Explorer.

Hah! I needed to say it, but... finally the Windows Spotlight bug has been fixed with that update! I have two computers that have been plagued with that problem forever and both of them finally got nice pictures on the lock screen!
Just for that it was a worthy update

Hello GSi, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If Windows Spotlight should break on you again, you should be able to use the method in the tutorial below to fix it as needed.
