The wording is probably not as clear as it should be (surprise!). My understanding is delaying feature updates includes, a) any new Feature Updates themselves, such as the upcoming 19H1, and b) any non-security updates to the current Feature Update (this case, 1809)....
That is the first time I have seen a description of the 'defer features updates' option that accurately describes its behaviour. While it makes sense, it's open to debate whether this behaviour is by design or accident

Depends on what day of the week Tuesday falls on in Redmond. Flexible Evolutionary Design and Documentation. So, yes, it was by Designed Accident or Accidental Design.

i remember before Christmas they also released a CU on Friday, was very small though, and probably because they weren't going to do it on the holiday itself.

    Hi there
Whoever in I.T ever releases stuff on a Friday !!!!! seems bonkers to me -- what you don't want is loads of users finding stuff not working on a Monday morning -- of course people upgrade / repair / test stuff over a weekend but that's totally different to letting updates etc out of the door to users on a Friday afternoon without sufficient testing !!!!

Tuesday is fine -- I don't think though many of the updates have been delivered on a Friday !!!

personally I would avoid any CU's delivered on a Friday or the day before a long weekend or other public holidays and wait to apply them back when people are working again normally.

In Europe Xmas can be anything up to 2 weeks long before people work normal schedules again -- don't even THINK of getting any service between around 19 Dec until the 1st working monday in january -- that's my experience in pretty well every European country I've been in..

    Cheers

This is why companies don't adopt fixes directly and have their own distribution clients, on their own accord. The company I'm employed under is still under version 1709 due to constant testing of new feature and CU updates..

Black screen was a clear sign, driver has to be disabled to update or change version.

What the… This non-Critical CU came through to me automatically. Usually I need to wait to patch tuesday. Is it a sign that Microsoft is prepping their feature update? Possibly without interference by another update?
