I'm not positive about him, but I have two letters because the disk is partitioned into two different drives. Why would you want two partitions having the same drive letters? And I'm sure Windows will NOT allow two drives to share the same letter, either.

You may be right and I think you are. In my mind, I thought they were appearing like that also in File Explorer. I think I am not totally awaken yet:

Just curious why you are having 2 letters (F: and G:) for disk 3. You can correct that in Disk Management. Once there, in the left pane where you have the numbered discs, you can right-click on it and "Change drive letters" in order to pick just one letter.
Lol. because that's how I partitioned it. Disk3 is partitioned in two, it's 2TB HDD and each one has own use. What I don't know is why is it used while updating windows as it doesn't or has ever contained any OS.
Anyways. update finished fine and now it passes sfc and other tests.

I have noticed activity on another disk during upgrade from time to time. I'm pretty sure when my first upgrade from 119H1 to 20H1 in a VM during restart there was a lot of activity on a second disk while it was stuck at 7%. I wondered at the time whether it was being used as a work area while it was rolling back.

Sorry Mate that I ask the question. @smactilactus has done a good job in answering my question and see also my post #110 (I need to finish my morning coffee).

With regard to sfc /scannow, I am still in a big fight with this securable object. I have tried to change the security descriptor associated with it, since it seems that SFC cannot access the security information contained in Winsxs, by running:
ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs in cmd with admin privilege. That didn't give the expected result.

I have even tried to run it in Safe boot. No joy either. The weird thing is that I fixed it last night and this morning I am back to square one again. The last thing left for me to do is to get the .iso from UUPDump in order to create an installation disc for Automatic Repair.

Nothing to be sorry about but I'm a pack-rat when it comes to SW and have many many other files and backups on about 10 Disks of which 5 are in the same case so if I didn't keep some resemblance of order and labeled., I'd never find anything in them. For instance, I have an ISO I made out of every insider build I have ever used and I'm using W10 since 1st beta. That takes one whole HDD by itself. Not to mention hundreds of CDs and DVDs I burned thru years and sitting in a box. Of yeah few dozen Linux distros too.

Defender definition updates have always been in both Defender and in WIndows Update. You can update using either of them.

Yes, they always have been Kari. Its just that I don't know why the new build did not show any in Windows Update until today.
