But, wait, there is more. It repeated the setting up phase then re-downloaded and is now installing again.

Taking bets whether it completes the install!

Wow, what a struggle that was. Must have been a lot of telemetry went to and fro!

Multiple re-dos and multiple restarts later I have the new version.

No use wondering what is different between comps with easy installs and problematic ones, though.

I did all of that and sfc still stuck at 34% but that was in previous build too.

No go over 34%. no matter what.
After your posts on the matter, I went and checked sfc /scannow again, it gave me back the same problem as yours (stuck at 34%), when before yesterday I thought the problem has been fixed. It seems a minor bug that comes and goes.

What I did, was to run " chkdsk /R C: " . After it was over, I went to check the result in event viewer to find the event log with "wininit" under the source column and the result (part of it at the end) reads:

Stage 5: Looking for bad, free clusters ...
    169353626 free clusters processed.
    Free space verification is complete.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.

Windows has made corrections to the file system.
    No further action is required.

    930296032 KB total disk space.
    251856840 KB in 316651 files.
    226156 KB in 92178 indexes.
    0 KB in bad sectors.
798532 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
    677414504 KB available on disk.

After that, I ran the same DISM command lines again:
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /restorehealth
    And finally: sfc /scannow:

I hope it stays that way. I will probably try to run it again later tonight after using the PC for a while, and see if it keeps working normally.

My sfc also stops at 34% even after running chkdsk /r and the dism's.

But, at least mine did install and is running fine.

So is mine. I am really convinced that sfc /scannow being stuck at 34% (for others at 36%) is a minor bug which will probably be fixed with the next update to this build. For sure, MS needs to know about it in the Feedback Hub.

I don't know what happened last night. I had flashing taskbar after the update and the OS is unusable. I just restored an image and tried again and everything is fine now.
I guess some fine tuning with the update have been done since yesterday.

Downloaded 18890 without any problems. Everything seems to work alright on my 13 year old Dell desktop.

Does anyone still have this new feature in the Start menu? it was enabled via server in build 18885 but after a few hours it disappeared, at least in my case.

PS, The funny thing is that it disappeared a couple of hours after I wrote a post on Reddit showing this new feature, it seems that Microsoft didn't like what I said in that post .
