With these guys it was easy to get into trouble. They seem to have a thin skin. On another Linux forum I was once reprimanded by a moderator because I did not say 'please'. But now they banned that moderator. Anything can happen.

There are a lot of nice and helpful people. But some are real fanatics. Nevertheless, I got a lot of help from them when I started with Linux. I am still on 3 forums.

In my experience, yes. There are some really helpful users but for the most part they seem to be a bit on the fanatical side. I find it quite off-putting...

On the subject of a cloud os, that would be an absolute deal breaker for me. I would never accept that, not even free of charge, never, no how no way....

But,, but,, isn’t Linux free and full of love?? Free, yes.. love.. NO!!
I just can’t deal with Linux.. in any distro! It works but I just prefer Windows… Hell I would use Vista over Linux..

Most of the time I usae Mint Mate. It is a fine system. But since there are a few Windows programs that I need, I cannot go Mint 100%.

I also use Zorin at times. That is a preconfigured system where you really have to do nothing to run it. I never touch the command line except for activating the VMware tools. But that is a special case.

Here are some links if you want to have a closer look.

I have Mint Mate installed on a separate SSD instead of running it in VM. No problems setting it up and I haven't needed the command line yet, thank goodness! Like whs mentioned, I have Windows programs that I use quite a bit, so I can't run Mint exclusively.

I have to say that the Linux command line grows on you. At first it is scary but once you have a little collection of canned commands, you can do a lot with it - and often easier than with the UI - sometimes it is the only way to do unusual things. Just don't try to learn it bottom up - that would be frustrating.

I once new a few "sudo" commands, when I was running Ubuntu 9.04, but that was quite a while ago.
