Has anyone got a new update? This monring at approx 4.30 am UK time I booted up, went into office 365 (opening excel) and (as I often do) did a manual click check for updates and box appeared 'downloading office updates, you can keep using office while we download in background'. An hour later and it's still downloading. Unhelpfully this never has a progress or % bar so have no idea if it's getting anywhere. Maybe version 1904 is coming through hence the long download, maybe the MS servers are being flakey. We have 2 machines and both are doing exactly the same!

But at some point I'm going to have to abort. How does one cancel this whilst it is purportedly mid download? There is no cancel or X to click. Can I just shutdown the PC and it will auto cancel the download attempt? I dont' want to screw anything up or cripple office's ability to retry the update later this evening by doing so

EDIT - Well I decided to restart the pc I am less fond of to see what happens. It restarted ok with no hanging as it waited for office to complete the download. However if I know open office back up on it and go into the account page the box now says 'updates for this product are available for download' and is yellow but then clicking the dropdown to 'update now' and kick it off again does absolutely nothing. No box re-appears to show it's trying to download again! So I don't know if breaking the download attempt by restarting/shutting down PC cludges this process up. Maybe it is still downloading silently in the background (or at least trying to) but have no way of knowing

Had exactly the same problem with my Laptop. Sat there for two hours downloading. Looked in Task manager it was downloading for a while then just gave up. I have shut down the odd one at work with out problems.
This time I tried to a repair install and completely borked office. Had to use the uninstall tool to completely remove it.
When I did the reinstall it put me on monthly channel targeted, what my other machines are on.
Now on 1904 11601.20072 complete with new icons. Skype for business crashes on exit in this version

Cheers, kind of despair with MS. Nothing is simple. Still at crossroads whether to wait it out or just shutdown our main machine. Don't fancy the sound of that repair install and risk making things worse

I got iOS and Mac OS and the new office with new icons all updated great last week. But when it comes to their own OS they just cannot get it right!

On our lesser pc that I restarted where I couldn't get the download to restart when clicking update now, I went in task manager, killed the click to run process. Restarted excel and upon opening the box saying 'downloading office update' is back. But of course still doesn't look like an awful lot is happening

I think the repair install was more due to my own impatience than anything. Being on a 4Mbps connection is crap as well, it takes for ever sometimes to download updates.

It's either a massive download or their servers (more likely) are up the creek. Leaves us in limbo though unsure how to progress

Have wathed it in task manger doing its thing. Seems to download for a bit. Then stop for a while then keep going then stop.
Then start again etc. Its like it doesn't get the signal that its finished and start installing the dam thing.
