I will agree the .53 CU is the culprit.....where I differ in opinion is (your quote) appears to be.....I am convinced is the culprit.
The proof for myself being doing an update using UUP did not work (tried several times) whereas a clean install worked first time.
Surprisingly after a restart most of the resetting I had been worried about turned out to be needless, most being retained thanks to having a Microsoft account.
As for disabling the search service prior to getting 18875 to install before using UUP....that along with many other things tried just did not work for me.
The company is now working on a new cumulative update that will be applied on top of Build 18362.53, which needs to be installed before Insider testers can update to the last builds from the 20H1 branch.
For now, Microsoft has stopped offering Build 18875 to Insiders on Build 18362.53 and has stalled the release of new 20H1 builds until it unblocks the release for testers.
