    UPDATE 4/16: A huge thank you to all the Windows Insiders who reported and up-voted feedback on receiving 0xca00a000 and/or 0x80242016 errors when attempting to download and install Build 18875. Your feedback has been immensely helpful in the investigation of the issue. We have determined that there is an issue with the Build 18362.53 (KB4495666) Cumulative Update that was released early last week which has caused updates to Build 18875 to fail. The issue only impacts 19H1 to 20H1 updates and occurs due to a migration failure as the OS attempts to update to the new build. To resolve this issue, we are creating a new Cumulative Update that will need to be applied on top of Build 18362.53 first before Insiders will be able to update to the latest 20H1 builds. As we work on this new Cumulative Update, we have stopped offering Build 18875 to Insiders on Build 18362.53 and holding off flighting a new 20H1 build until we can deliver the fix to unblock Insiders. Our goal is for this to happen by the end of this week. Well share additional updates as available.
    Heh - hoist in their own petard, it seems.

    Thanks for the heads up Brink and it's a good detailed explanation by Microsoft. However on the other side of the coin why didn't they test this out before build 18875 was released. It's surely not a large stretch of the imagination to realise that an Insider on the RP or Slow ring would switch to Fast or Skippy and update. Still I suppose that's what us Insiders are put on this earth for
    Yeah, the small subset, coupled with the close release times (official 19362 patch was made available on 6 April whereas 18875 was made available 10 April, so only 4 days, so that little patch probably was released a bit late for flighting tests (for them).

    For normal people like you and me, this would have been more than enough time to test....

    Hi there

    VMWARE still has problems with VMs when attaching external USB2/3 HDD's/thumb drives / SSD's via SATA-->USB connectors.

    Same problem on all the other 1903 H1 builds as well as these 20H1 builds.

    To avoid confusion -- I'm talking about running these builds as HOST machines and then running VMWARE to start VM's on these builds - doesn't matter what the VM is (Another build of W10/W7 or a Linux VM) - the USB attach fails -- causes the VM to freeze and in order to close VMWARE down you have to re-boot

    Cheers

    There is supposed to be another update for machines on 18362 that should fix it, or else you could try uninstalling that previous update for build 18362 (though when you check for Windows update it might try to come back).

    FWIW..... I asked on the Insider Twitter if a successful 18362>18875, was it recommended to go back to 18362 and wait for the CU.

    @f14tomcat,

    According to your post #254, if one is already on 18875 there is no need to roll back in order to apply the upcoming CU destined to fix errors: 0xca00a000. Is that the general consensus or just wishful thinking?

    The reply was from the official Windows Insider Twitter account so a bit more than wishful thinking.
