    Hi there

This update is driving me even more Bonkers than I probably already am. How can this be anything like RTM (I think there was a post earlier in this thread) where this update won't even install from a perfectly OK build 18346.1

Can the hardware requirements really change that much between a base build and an update --it's not a new build so what's up !!!! Note this is on a physical machine not a VM.

This fails (via standard WU) -- update starts and then throws up fail screen alluding to hardware - but of course typical with Ms doesn't specify what the hardware problem is. The Laptop is quite a recent one so what's going on here !!!

    Attachment 230320

Strange thing is I can update this PC to the 20H1 releases !!!

    Cheers

Well, with laptops as has been mentioned many times, all bets are off as the great majority of them use custom hardware that differs from the actual retail-hardware specifications, so if your drivers change during an update bad stuff can happen--and that's why most laptops require drivers from the laptop OEM as opposed to from direct hardware web sites, or via Win10x64 builds. However, you can do what the screen shot below illustrates once you find a set of drivers that work and you should be OK on that score. Mine has been set that way for so many months I can't recall when I first set it! I install all drivers myself--Windows installs none. I'm on a desktop, and all my gear is 100% retail hardware spec, and I still found this very useful. Worth a shot. No more driver problems for me! Now, if by chance you are already doing this then you have some other problem unrelated to your hardware drivers, assuming you've installed a set of device drivers you deem reliable with some other build, prior to setting this group policy. Good luck...;)

Microsoft have now sent me 1903 18362.3 which has installed fine, so I'll retry the Cumulative update when I've got a moment!

I think you mean 18362.30. The part after the period is not a decimal fraction, it is a sequential number. 18362.30 is a later ('higher number') build than 18362.29, for example. So don't drop the zero - it's important!

Well... This one works for me (bar the VMWare issue..) switched to VBox.. and no issues - all my apps work (never really had an issue like others eg. Classic Shell, TBH.. but always a concern with new RTM's)

Welcome to the Ten forums Saadish,

Try disabling Windows Search in Services, empty the content of distribution Software folder and you should be set to go with WU. You may also try to get KB4495666 file manually from MS catalog. Unless you want to do a clean install, 1903 ISO is 18362.1.

Aside from Night light not working on my Asus TUF FX505DY (Ryzen 5 3550H), I just tried to do the Display calibration in Control Panel > Color Management and the gamma slider doesn't change anything at all.

Jeez! Disk Cleanup actually works again. I now have 12GB more free disk space compared to latest 1809 builds. Nothing is broken so far and seems like a really smooth ride. Great job MS.

Now I even think it could be worthwhile going through the hassle of getting rid of VS2017 and upgrade it to VS2019. Hmmm...not sure it's worth the risk just yet though.
