I've joined the Club..... out of the blue at 6:20 this morning. Went thru it's normal gyrations, logged itself (again), and that was that. Didn't say "Restart me, please", or anything. I did anyway. Not that I don't trust MS, but.......................

After a clean install of v1809 build 17763.253 on 02-23, including .NET Framework update KB4483452, then updating to 17763.348 on 03-02 along with .NET Framework update KB4486553, my XPS 8920 had been running flawlessly. Now a check of Windows Update is resulting in an attempt to download and install KB4480056, a .NET update almost 2 months older than current.

I'm not sure Microsoft understands how Windows Update works..... I know I don't.

MS recently put a block on this update for certain machines (possibly with specific AV software). Possibly the blocked version is being seen as a slightly different version, so people who are finding this update appearing a second time may have initially updated before the block.

This was fast and easy, if I was set to auto I wouldn't even notice it.

Haven't gotten that platform twice, yet. Got it 6:03 this morning. Probably get it again at 6:03pm!

Avira got back to me. They have a fix. So I uninstalled Avira and installed the new version. no change - the boot is the issue. Windows logo, then black screen, then turn off computer physically, then restart. Works. Tried this process x4. Hence it is still a boot problem. Start up repair in safe mode did not work either. So either Avira have nor resolved teh issue with a fresh install, or, Microsoft has become corrupted. I have replied to Avira in this vein.
    Sigh.
Will we have to wait for May's new Windows version?
