It has been a well known fact for a while that when users are having problems installing Updates, be it FUs or CUs, it is sometimes recommended to either uninstall the A-V third-party app or uninstall the updates and pause them in order to not receive them right after. Either way, the skinny is that third-party A-V Software can prevent those updates from installing normally.

The main reason is that ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) or OEMs don't have enough time to test the updates internally in order to pinpoint possible issues.

My point is if Avira can cause problems for the versions you mentioned, it can also cause problems for Win 10's updates in as much as Avira has not issued a fix yet for the problem.

I will also make a reference to post #92.

Avira files downloaded last night. No change. Still no boot up. Still switch off then on again - then works. Hence no resolution as yet. Informed Avira their fix has not worked.
Sigh.

i run Avira and after this cumulative update to 17763.437 i had regular freezes where i had to wait a minute or longer before a web page got shown when i was browsing. i've just done a clean install of windows and WU downloaded the cumulative update in the background and i had no choice but to install it. mmmm but for now i won't be installing Avira AV until i see another update from MS or Avira. i can't remember what version Avira i had running but it was updated to the latest.

where can i get v1903 without sign-up to Windows Insider? or should i just wait like everybody else? end of May is still over a month away..

Which is not possible in Windows 10 for majority of population (Home users).

Putting aside that I find it a bit silly to have to disable/uninstall AV in 2019 in order to perform system update successfully. Don't even mention this to corporate users & businesses.

Just sayin'.

Avira pro. Been on and off computer today. Activity log shows several automatic Avira updates today - probably more than any usual virus update. Further, on re-reboot c drive on SSD scan/repair activated automatically - so maybe, just maybe Avira have a fix. I'll let you know next time I'm on - likely tomorrow. But I ain't holding my breath No microsoft updates.
