    Reply today from Avira:

We've finished the development for "Update 45" which should fix all these issues. Currently we're rolling out this update which means it could take some hours to be available for you. Please run a clean reinstallation if you're facing any issues after installation of "Update 45".

Avira has been updated. Everything working fine now with KB4493509 installed. I had to do a manual update to get it, but the installer from their site has also been updated. New version is 15.0.45.1154.
apparently the new Avira 15.0.45.1154 update did not fix the problem with KB4493509 for some other avira users:

read some of the comments there (like try again, Avira)

wdsutil is not in the oath. You need to fully qualify it. There is one in oobe. Try:

    C:\Windows\System32\oobe\wdsutil.dll /Set-TransportServer /EnableTftpVariableWindowExtension:No

I suggest taking a look at more recent posts before posting next time. Including this one:

AND.... the post RIGHT ABOVE your comment.

e-mail from Avira - We have looked into the issue that you described, where the system slows down after a Windows update, and have found a way to fix it.
We have recently released an update that should fix this issue. Your Antivirus Pro will be automatically updated, and you don’t have to do anything else in the product.
If you have uninstalled the incompatible Windows Update, you can now restore it using the Windows Update function
    .

    As yet not running properly

Did you read my post with the reply I was given from Avira? They DID release an update this last Friday, but it only intermittently fixed things. The new update has NOT been released yet, as it's not available through either a manual update or by downloading the installer from their site. It's still sitting at 15.0.45.1154 which is the one from Friday. The Avira installer lists the version in it's properties, and it's also listed "in app" in the "About" dialogue box. So if it's not higher than that... it's not a newer update & it won't solve the problems.

Edit: Perhaps you can email them back and ask them what the full version number of the "fixed" release is. If they tell you the one I mentioned above, you can inform them that it did NOT solve anything.

Hum, this morning my laptop would not completely load Windows during boot up. It stopped right before Desktop appeared, so I opened Task Manager to look. All looked okay so I switched users and all hell broke loose. I had to do some fancy footwork and troubleshooting, almost reset Windows but stopped short and the restored to an earlier date. I found three users listed that I have no idea how they got there since I first setup to log-in using my Microsoft Account only. Anyway, it was a mess fixing it.

The article says they have only prevented the update for Avira users on Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows Server versions. It also states that only ArcaBit antivirus is confirmed to cause problems with Windows 10.

    Really Microsoft?
