And MalwareBytes and Defender work fine. No fixes needed, cause they didn't break anything. May be others that are ok, too.
Merely "FYI" - Norton Security and this MS update: No issues on Win 10 Pro or Home

reply from Avira support today: "We've released an update which should fix this issue at Monday. So please make sure that your installation is up to date. Also you can perform a reinstallation to get the latest version for sure."i'm not going to install it yet. i don't believe they have fixed the problem. i will wait. i think MS may release a fix soon. perhaps.

also i'm not going to install v1903. i will update my current v1809 in 4 weeks time (patch Tuesday) or before. v1903 should arrive near end of May. undecided as to when to install that. maybe wait a couple of weeks until the first update for it is out.

Judging by the mess that was 1809, I shan't be installing 19 anything until end of July at the earliest!
i shall await the findings of you happy, jolly people who participate in the WIP.....for which I thank you.

    Avira responds Day 8

Avira support (I am on pro) sent e-mail with link to Avira Support Collector. Analyses computer, saves a .7z file which is attached and returned. " this type of issue might have several causes we will need to investigate it a little bit deeper" ................................................."After the Technical Department has finished analyzing your data, I will send you an email with further instructions"

Hope your email will contain a £25 gift card to put toward a new AV.

i'm using McAfee Stinger to check for viruses at the moment. it also has a real-time protection feature.

There's nothing wrong with McAfee Stinger, but it is a stand-alone scanner to be used when a virus or malware is present that is hard to remove. It has no real-time option I am aware of. The definitions are as up to date as the last time you downloaded it. The full McAfee AV has real-time, not the Stinger version. Just didn't want you to be under a false impression.
