Well, I'm pretty severely overclocked (Intel 5820K @ 4.58GHZ / DDR4-3258) and had no problems. But if your OC is not well and stable, that could be a problem.

Overclock or not, it's always a good idea to load optimized defaults with new hardware or an OS, to allow the bios to calibrate to your system. More than likely you can load your original overclock without issue, but you still want it to load at least the once on optimized defaults.

I agree about the hardware changes, but the BIOS has no clue about your OS, other than the boot drive. If your OC is stable, the software will run. Problem is some don't really test their OC with adequate stress and memory testing.

Never heard that one before, and I've been building since 98. I've never had to load "Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS when upgrading to a new OS, even doing a clean install. The only time I load optimized defaults in the BIOS is when I build a new system, replace the CPU or RAM. Also if I'm overclocking and have stability issues.

Outside of those I find no need to go into the BIOS and load optimized defaults. In fact, I'm not sure most here would do that just for an OS upgrade/clean install

But hey, it's your system :)
