I usually have to reset Photo Viewer as default for jpg & png too, but 1903 was the first FU that didn't reset mine to Photos. Turning off Fast Startup after it was re-enabled (I like it turned off) was another routine chore, but that one seemed to stop being reset from 1803 onwards.
Yep, we got rid of the Fast Startup reset, with 1803.

Why do you need to reinstall it?.....it is INSTANTLY available directly from OneDrive.

Having been in and out of the house all morning, have only been answering your individual posts which makes it appear somewhat complicated....so try here to explain solution for inbuilt backups.

By Signing into an M$ account......ALL files and folders will be restored to their previous settings.....both those on your HD or SSD drives as well as showing your OneDrive settings.....so you have no need to download them to your computer.

Same thing with me...to be honest System Restore has never been turned off in any FU, as far as I remember!
And yet, on my machines,Pro and Home, every FU from the Anniversary Update to present has resulted in System Restore being turned off after the update finished installing. I'm still on 1809, so 'twill be interesting to see if 1903 does it.
I can understand why MS would want to delete the restore points - after a FU they are pretty much invalid.

I just wonder if it's because way back when W10 was just a baby, I used the Policy Editor to set updates the way I wanted them and, to this day, I still see "*Some settings are managed by your organisation" in the appropriate places.
That would explain Pro but not Home.

Yes I noticed that most settings are applied, desktop, APPs, themes, sign in options but it's no going to restore any personal files, installed programs etc. just bare windows. Not even all settings are back.

There must be something more to it than just a blanket 'OFF' switch. I have upgraded most of my machines to 1903 now. Before the upgrade some had their System Protection turned on, others had it turned off. In each case System Protection remained set as it was before the upgrade.
Might be... I still can't figure out what it is.

My experience is exactly the opposite. I just upgraded several very different x64 Pro machines: some Intel, some AMD; some are sysprepped to have their 'Users' folder on D:, some use the default setup; some desktops, some laptops; some set up by me, some have nothing to do with me.

All of them had System Protection on C: enabled and set for 10%. All of them had their System Protection in OFF state after the update.

What they have in common is: all sign in through local accounts.

Yep, mine too is always on a local account. Something else is triggering the reset...
