Update: I'm in now! Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903 rollout approach-18362.png
The update is actually very good! Internet icon has changed to a globe with a slash, brightness slider is now in action center, and cortana is a standalone app now.
ONE little problem. NO Chromium based edge. Tried to install Hangouts, but gave me this message.
"You need google chrome to install this app"

I used the MCT tool to create a USB Thumbdrive, confirmed version, 18362.30.

Plugged it into a laptop and ran setup. Okayed it to get all updates.

Update failed, Windows 10 can't be installed on a device with USB or SD installed.

Really, even the MCT device causes fail.

No one expected the new Edge to be in this feature update, that was known for a long time ago, it's likely that the new Edge is included in the feature update of April or May of the year 2020, it would be almost a "miracle" if it's included in the October update of this year.

    Chromium Edge browser?

It's a known issue acknowledged by Microsoft. The MCT usb is good for a clean install, but for an upgrade the usb being connected causes issues. MS seem to have decided it wasn't sufficiently bad a bug to warrant holding back from release. I guess they are banking on most users getting the update via windows update.

...Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late May.

A workaround is to copy Setup.exe from the root of your USB and its Sources folder to a temporary folder on your HDD, then run Setup from there. You can delete the temporary folder when done. I have done just that to upgrade some of my machines.

I knew about having external storage attached but I thought they would at least allow their own tool.
@Bree have you tried a repair install with key. Would be really interesting if they broke repair and said what the h3ll.

No, as far a Setup is concerned it's just another usb with a drive letter....

I've only just upgraded so no, haven't (yet) needed to do a repair install

But I'd expect it to fail using a usb, but then I typically mount an ISO (usually from a network share) for an in-place repair so it wouldn't be an issue.

Upgraded this morning. Bought a new USB 3 drive and the main install took less than 10 minutes!
